TRD Pro Grill and Garnish info, Updated.

To me, this doesn't make sense. If you start with any other grille, the sensor is in the center of the grille. Once you move it to the Pro grille, you have lowered the sensor a few inches. Then you lift the truck, putting the sensor back closer to it's original height, then it gives errors?

 

yup, dont know why it's so sensitive, it's the angle, maybe if I went 2 front/ 2 rear it would be ok, I will try to play with it for a few days and report back. I have a dealer appt as a back up next week.
Just so you all are aware in case you do a lift later, the lift ( for me) caused the Stability Control, TSS and Lane departure malfunctions. Once aligned and set back to zero, the stabilitrac is all good, just gotta fix the other 2. The lane dep may fix itself after driving a while so I've heard.

I had lifted my truck the same amount before doing the grill install and have had no errors.

 

It say's it isn't compatible for 2020 or 2021 with front facing camera. Any other options?

No washers. I damaged that grill and am running an aftermarket one now. The OEM was definitely nicer. I ran the aftermarket one with no garnish at all and had no issues. Currently I have the OEM garnish installed on it with no washers, still no issues.

 

You changed the angle of the sensor upwards by about 0.8% (1” over 127.4” wheelbase). You’ll have to place washers to the lower mount screws or find another way to point sensor slightly downward.

 

yes, that is what I'm thinking. I had 4 washers on the top screw, I just pulled them and was looking at the bottom to see what can do with those screws. Haven driven yet, will post results after.

 

I just added 1 washer on each and it works perfect on my China grille. I have a 3" lift.

 

Are these grills and/or garnishes available at all now? Haven’t seen a lot of recent posts and thinking about selling grill and garnish I have that’s been sitting in my garage for a couple years. lol.

 

Wanted to add that I purchased a knockoff TRD Pro grill and garnish from MC Auto and placed a single washer between the grill and the top screw and have had zero issues. What I wanted to share was that the garnish that came from MC Auto was bright silver. It stood out like a sore thumb. I considered just forking out the cash for the OEM one but decided to overlay the knockoff garnish with a 65% tent to tone it down. To my surprise it turned out great. So far this has had no effect on my adaptive cruise control. Only time will tell if this will hold up but as of now it looks much better. If anything changes I will provide updates. See before/after comparison:

I'm looking to add the Pro Grille to my 2021 SR5. I want to go OEM everything because I don't want there to be any sensor issues. Can anyone confirm the part numbers I need?

I'm a parts manager at a dealership and our techs often spend hours aiming those darn radar sensors using vehicle specific mirrors and reflectors to get them adjusted just right. They are usually very sensitive to within a couple of degrees. If you can make them work right by simply adding a couple of washers then you're doing pretty good.
My chrome dipped Sport grille is starting to bubble and separate. After looking at the price of the factory replacement I started looking at aftermarket versions. I just received my aftermarket pro grille yesterday. Unfortunately they offered the lettering in almost every body color but inferno. I'm still expecting the flat black to look great on my TRD sport!

 

Have not tried the washers yet but will be.

On mine, the sensor works for thousands of miles then craps out. Went on a 12 hour trip, stopped a couple times. No issues. Once I got home, I went back on the road and the sensor acted up. Will have to try those washers.

 

Luckily my 2017 doesn't have the radar sensor. My new grille should install easily.
