Yes. It sits in front of the sensor to help protect from road debris and the elements. Garnish has to be flat, so they try to match the grills honeycomb look by putting a similar 2D design on it . But its just a flat piece of plastic…
On the stock non Pro grilles , the center emblem doubles as protection.

    Hi All,
I just tried to order the OEM grill from Passport Toyota linked earlier and got this email from them:
"In regards to your online order, Toyota requires the VIN number to the vehicle to further process the order. The grille on order is an OEM part, as mentioned on the website, only for the TACOMA TRD LIFT KIT. Per Toyota, the grille can only be sold by itself if the VIN number came back as a TACOMA TRD PRO which originally came from factory with grille, or if you have purchased the TRD LIFT KIT before. If neither option applies, Toyota requires us to cancel and refund the order. If you could please reply to this email with the VIN would be much appreciated."

Anyone got a VIN I can use or should I go with the aftermarket option?

Was hoping to add the front camera down the line but its not the end of the world if I can't.

    Thanks

I'm not sure if you can buy the Garnish separately from Empyre.

There is a source for just the garnish...but I forget the name of the store.

Awesome, thanks. With all of the 3rd party vendors out there with garnishes for sale, it would be nice to get the OEM grill and save some money on the garnish itself.

Hahaha, some one beat me to it but they just need a Pro VIN, not necessarily YOUR Pro VIN.

I ordered an OEM grill with the front camera mount. You can either cut your existing camera bracket to fit, or buy a camera bracket from Westcott Designs. For the Garnish I picked a $20 one from Amazon that has held up well so far.

Did you get a chance to watch that video I posted comparing the different grills?

The Empyre is the one with screws to attach the letters and the letters are color coded like the OEM grill (with black background).

I've seen the OEM garnish sold separately for like $300+ which I think is absurd.

Sourcing a non-OEM grill that is decent like the Empyre one for roughly under $200 is the way to go. Getting the OEM grill with the "mad hornet" one is roughly the same price as the Empyre combo.

The OEM grill seems to be glossier than the non-OEM grills...and I'm OK with that.

I get a "This product is no longer available" when I search for PT2283520020 at my toyota dealer parts. I wonder if Toyota is clamping down on the cheap grille option.

Got my OEM grill in. Never got any tracking or shipping email but it arrived. Also got the garnish in. When I get my truck in like a month I’ll report back lmao.

Honestly, it took some restraint not to join you with them showing up as unavailable in so many places
