The tss on the pro grill is lower and angled different. The sr grill is higher and angled lower I believe. You might have to do the spacer fix so the radar isn’t giving you a warning all the time.

You don’t really know until you try it. I had no issues on my dclb, but others have needed the washers. It’s an easy fix if you have issues. As far as the quality of the grill/garnish, I’m not sure what’s out there these days

I don’t think you need to do anything if you do the install carefully. I changed out mine at 600 miles or so with a pro copy from the Taco Garage IIRC. Pulled the grill shell, then pulled the grill out of it, carefully put in the Pro grill and sensor, put the sensor cover on and used a deep socket to push the speed nuts down tight. It works fine. At 11,xxx miles, I have had no problems rain, snow, or shine. I use the adaptive cruise all the time and it works perfectly.
I think people run into trouble when they try to compensate for the difference in some way. I also think some of the issues stem from not putting the sensor cover on tight. Though plastic is invisible to RF energy, it may read a loose cover as clutter or feedback and that may be why some people get an error.
The sensor has some ability to work within a height difference parameter. The vehicle is dynamic and the angle and height above the roadway constantly change as the suspension cycles up and down, and the vehicle travels over terrain. I don’t get errors when the truck is off road and the front end is bouncing or I am going up or down a steep grade. If the sensor couldn’t deal with vehicle height and angle changes, it would throw a fault all the time and be worthless.

When doing the swap, I recommend leaving your TSS sensor plugged in (just place it on top of the engine after you unscrew it). I think a lot of peoples problems with doing the swap are related to unplugging and replugging the sensor.

There's no need to unplug it. There's enough slack to leave it there while you swap grills.

Gonna be honest here, I only had an issue the first time I installed my pro grille. It said "clean sensor" I think. Other than that, I've reinstalled my stock grille like 15 times in the past 2 years (whenever I go to the dealership I put the stock grille on) and I've never had an issue. I think I hold the speedrun record at just under 5 minutes for the swap.

Just a good tip, if you have a 2018 tacoma or a tacoma that has the TSS recall (or if you think you have it), always throw the stock grille back on before going to the dealership. Don't let this happen to you

I installed a pro grille with TSS the other day and placed one washer on the top skrew. It works perfectly fine.
