So I just did the TRD Pro grill swap on my 2018 Sport, went "okay". Grill seems to be decent, it's solid.. the issue is in the garnish I bought from Amazon, the main part seemed well made, the plastic brackets were shit and 1 was broken already when I got it.. it doesn't seem to feel secure.. the tabs are in, but the little metal star type ones that go inside on the plastic thing are not solid and cause the whole garnish to move very slightly..

Any idea for a fix? Was thinking of just folding up some paper really small and sticking it in the edges to prevent movement.. I decided to use the cover that came with the grill as the shiny garnish was shit and broken.. also any idea how long it takes the pre-collision sensor to recalibrate? Turned the truck on and off a few times, error comes back 20-30 seconds later.

The aftermarket one I bought I never had any sensor issues. I unplugged the battery before installing, and when everything went back together and I took it down the road, no errors and my adaptive cruise tested to be working. My aftermarket garnish was less than desired in terms of quality as well, but it's ok.

Some of the Ebay ones are known to have calibration issues, kind of a gamble but some have had luck installing washers to reposition the garnish, I wouldn't run it without one as I'm sure that sensor is pricey to replace.

The clip on the garnish is busted off not exactly sure how to fix it other than buying another new garnish.. but at $50 a pop and sub par quality clips I dunno..

I bought a different garnish off Amazon. I just looked for a seller with good ratings. My first one was from mad hornets and it was garbage. The light would always come back on with the first one and has never come on with the second one. I don't think repositioning is really that important but others seem to have had a different experience

The seller had good ratings, the part had good ratings, I've read others had the same issue but after a bit the error went away, it sort of re calibrated automatically or something.. not sure if that's possible though

Can you return it? The one I got is from taco garage, shipping was slow but I'm generally happy with it and no errors. The garnish I got wasn't great ( I asked for a replacement which wasn't any better) so i think all aftermarket ones are just a little rough, no broken clips tho. The garnish has to be aligned correctly, if yours has a broken clip it sounds like you need a new one.

Edit: my grill also snapped in pretty tight as well, could be a contributing factor if your is lose.

The grill itself is pretty good, I bought that from a different person as they didnt have any garnishes. The garnish seller had good reviews and votes.. I'll try and find a different one

The dealer must reset it once it’s been unplugged and reposition it’s not behind the Toyota emblem anymore it’s right below the old location

I'm not sure that's true. I unplugged mine and repositioned it, with the battery disconnected, never threw a code once.

Not true! Once you move it they have to recalibrate it. It's not necessary to reset it.

Moving the location of the sensor changes the distance between you and the car in front of you but it will not set the light off

When you go from stock to pro grill, you lower the sensor a little. This doesn't cause a light saying it's dirty. It does change the distance between you and the car in front of you when using adaptive cruise control. If you don't like the new distances, you can get the dealer to recalibrate.

My bullshit meter is also off the charts. Why would moving the sensor down, but not forward or backwards, change the distance between you and the cars in front of you?

The radar in the grill works with the sensor in the windshield. You are changing the distance of one side of a triangle. The garnish is just a piece of plastic that is supposed to be invisible to the radar. As long as it is invisible it doesn't get in the way. If I'm wrong then that's fine but just telling me I'm an idiot doesn't work

How did I know it was gonna go here? Just trying to help. If you don't want my help then what is your motivation for even making a reply? If it's your sense of right and wrong, you should show me why I am wrong so everyone can correct themselves and move on. I really don't care about the sensor but the way people treat each other is starting to wear on me. I apologize if I offended you but please believe it was not intentional.
