My comment was that it would be "next level" to do what you did. Seems you're a little sensitive on this one my brother. Spend that money however you like.

Well this just ruined my day. I paid close to $700 each side when factoring in shipping. I thought that was a good deal. Meh oh well patience was never a virtue I had in spades...

Dude, just buy what you want and do what makes you happy. If buying these will make you smile every time you see your truck from your porch while drinking a beer, by all means do it. This along with the TRD Air intake are usually the two topics where people love to tell or insinuate to others in how dumb they are for wasting their money. Who cares? You want those Pro HLs and you have the means to get it? Get them! and post a pic after. Just don.t ask "what you guys think?":D

The price is dropping...I bought mine altogether (including harness + shipping for all) for just over $1400.

Yeah, I shoulda asked to have them installed when I bought my truck but that's why I had add-on remorse.

Morimoto V1 had issues and weren't as bright. V2 has better output than OEM and look better IMO.

It’s a decent price for led lamps. I mean over the years working in body shops I am amazed at what some headlamps cost. If I didn’t have the leds in mine I may have got these. I do prefer OEM over aftermarket lamps

Nope. The singular reason why after a month I bought OEM LED headlights to replace the Morimoto V2. I'll give you the point of them 'looking' better than stock (only during the day and when the DRLs are on), but in my opinion the light output in real world driving the OEM ones are hands down better. Call it speculative I'm gonna stand by my assertion. Hell I have a $1200 hole in my wallet for ditching the V2s for OEM...

EDIT ok I'll agree the Morimotos are better than the stock halogen bulb in projector headlights maybe that's what you meant. A candle blowing in the wind has more light than those headlamps...

Everyone I've heard of who has done this has zero regrets, including myself. I actually have developed a bit of disdain for driving at night in vehicles with poor lighting like my bro-in-law's 30+ year old freightliner. It is nice to be able to see at night. We are fortunate we have this option. The halogen headlights are rated marginal by IIHS, the LED ones get the highest "good" rating.

    https://www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/toyota/tacoma-crew-cab-pickup/2022#headlights

FWIW, the LED headlights for my 2018 Odyssey perform worse (high beam compared to halogen w bulb upgrade) and only minimally better (low beam) than the halogen versions. Not every LED headlight is better. But for 3rd gen Tacoma, they are head and shoulders above.

    Beginning with post #34...

ALL great comments...not that I needed justification for my purchase--several/many have done the upgrade with no regrets. (Insert that meme with tattoo spelled incorrectly)

I was fine with the halogens since last year (May 14) when I picked up my Sport. The output of HALOs meets minimum standards for sure.

Reading through the MEGA thread regarding OEM LEDs and the testimonials given leaned me towards this upgrade.

The challenge was..."will I be able to complete this task without jacking up my truck?"

So, in a sense it gave me inspiration and a goal oriented thought process to accomplish this monumental task.

It was a lesson learned as well as familiarization training for other tasks (like swapping out to vintage grill & adding Raptor lights).

Thanks to Dave for the magnificent harness and Sparks Parts, I have thee best headlights for my truck. (lest diminish my add-on remorse by purchasing after-the-fact)

This is a bit of an incomplete summary. I believe @crashnburn80 's testing revealed higher max intensity (at higher power consumption IIRC) but a lack of uplight which he deemed a significant problem. Also some build quality issues which could influence decision making. I wouldn't say the v2's are necessarily issue-free nor that they have "better" output than OEM LED but I will agree that the amber DRL is fun and that significant progress appears to have been made from v1 to v2.

I do question the focus on third gen Tacoma now that an OEM option is out. If I were doing the planning from Morimoto’s parent company I’d be focusing on older models of Tacoma and Tundra where Toyota is highly unlikely to compete. And those large H4 reflectors offer tons of space to work with.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been wanting these headlights since I got my truck in October 2020 and the $485 option wasn't available. I just ordered using coupon code "FREESHIP" and no tax.. 1% cashback on my card, $1033.26 for the 2. Any idea what I can sell my OEM headlights for?
