There have never been actual problems with the SR / SR5 harness.

A few timers have apparently needed reprogramming, Johnny has taken care of that promptly. This amounts to less than a handful from what I know.

One relay was deemed defective which I swapped out but never got the broken one back so I wasn’t able to confirm that was for sure a defective unit. I use one model of relay for everything I make and this incident is the only reported potential concern across all harnesses I’ve ever sold. I keep good stock on the relays but I have had difficulty in the past due to 9+ month lead times. They can also be purchased on eBay, Mouser and Waytek if needed, just far more expensive that way. I have confidence in this model of relay as a robust solution when a relay is needed.

So, bottom line, nothing at all wrong or bad or a concern with the SR/SR5 OEM LED conversion harness design.

With that said, I don’t particularly love depending on a programmable timer to solve the problem. It works just fine but I don’t personally like it as a solution. That’s just my own preference on design and dependencies. I wish someone made a small, cheap, fully integrated and waterproof solution which didn’t need programming and could be easily swapped out to de-multiplex the combined DRL and Turn signal. The closest such device is the Curt module but it imposes a delay and is not nearly cheap enough or small enough to consider.

Next, add in the hyperflash and resistor discussion and you have two real challenges, separating DRL and Turn then handling turn circuit load. The second problem is bigger than it sounds up front because as a vendor you have no control over the ECU nor any aftermarket taillights, mirror turns, led turn bulbs / switchback bulbs, existing resistors, etc. Somehow the harness guy is on the hook for the headlight to work for every situation out there and Toyota is off the hook because they declare it as incompatible. This topic alone has consumed far more of my life than I care to admit and the biggest reason why the SR/SR5 harness is not a healthy product for me. It would be so much easier/smarter for Toyota to handle this with ECU options or an adapter module or an SR OEM LED headlight board.

It is very unfortunate that the least expensive trims have the most complicated and difficult set of challenges to use the OEM LED headlights.

You might be able to get @no vtec 4me to customize some SR halogen headlights with blackout sidemarker and de-chromed if you were so inclined.
