If you don’t intend to do a whole lot then yes I agree, however a stock OR is just as capable as the Pro. The Pro suspension still comes no where close to good aftermarket suspensions.

If you want to lift it, then you're better off getting a TRD Off Road 4x4 with premium package to get the same TRD Pro interior with dual climate zones.

When you call a dealership shopping for a Pro, make sure the salesman is not trying to sell you a regular taco with just a pro grill. He’d be the worst salesman ever.

I’m in the same boat. Next truck I buy will be a pro or TRD OR. I’m leaning more to the OR. Only things that really make the pro more appealing to me is the headlights, tail lights, and grille. I already have TRD pro wheels which I would swap over. And I would upgrade the suspension at some point.

I can get an OR easily and swap that stuff out pretty for considerably less money. OR’s are more readily available which is another reason I’m leaning that way. I don’t want to deal with tracking a pro down and haggling on a BS “market adjustment” This is not at all a knock on Pro’s or Pro owners. Those trucks are badass.

If you have the money, buy the pro.. Change the tires, and run in it like that for a while, until the bug to modify it gets to you. then you can lift it, etc...
or, you can get the off road for less money; you can install any lift you'd like, and make it as capable as you want for less money than what you spend on the Pro..
I didn't have the money to buy the pro and modify it, so i bought the off road and don't regret it...

Everyone keeps saying this, but that isn't true. The stock OR is not as capable as the pro, its about 1 inch of lift worse geometrically, and far less durable when sailing at 40-50 mph on rough woopy washboard roads.

I get that they arent that different, but saying an OR is just as capable is flatly not true.

It’s being said because many of us have taken our offroad significantly further and on more difficult terrain than the Pros.

The reality of that fox suspension is that it’s still a 1.5 piston which is the same size and also emulsion and the rear shock reservoirs aren’t big enough to make a significant impact. Sure it’s an internal bypass which allows for better control offroad but it still suffers the same drawbacks as a basic Bilstein shock. The 1” of lift contributes to almost nothing as your clearance is the same and the approach and departure angles don’t even add 1 degree.

This is what I just said.

If you read my post I said it’s basically the same. Internal bypass doesn’t mean exclusively better, it’s equally capable.

Whatever you gotta do to justify your purchase man. Bypass zones doesn’t mean it’s more capable, and that’s the point.

I mean the same can be said about you. I'm not justifying my purchase, but when people say a stock OR os just as capable as a pro to people looking into buying one of these trucks, that isn't true.

Better approach and departure angles, and IBP shocks. It's not that hard.

Hahahaha ok bud. Let me know the next time your at the mall, I know you want to show off those approach angles on those curbs. Sorry your approach angle is 0.025 degrees better. Hahaha

Whatever you gotta say to me to make yourself feel better homie. Stop spreading disinformation to people who are asking genuine questions about tacomas.

    Saying:

    is not true...

Yet you absolutely no idea what that actually is and have no real data to back it up. By all means please share the comparative metrics between the two. Because we have seen on many occasion and I have observed personally many Pros not actually lifted higher than the OR.

You’ve demonstrated a complete lack of fundamental understanding on the subject so I’m not sure there is much to discuss. By all means please continue referencing negligible variables.
