Read? Maybe. Register? Probably not so much.

I appreciate you bringing up the option, there are certainly some good aftermarket options out there folks should consider. Note that the Pelfreybilt is $360 with powder coating.

I could see the dealer having a mini-meltdown about not having easy access to the oil filter. Probably a non-issue if you do oil changes yourself, but a factor for me (no place to do car work and I've done enough oil changes for one lifetime already). Also, if there were cooling issues, it would be hard to blame an OEM supplied skid. All minor issues really, but since I personally really like the look of the TRD skid and I like the features, I can't blame someone for wanting to go that route, even if it is a few dollars more (just look at how much people spend on frilly wheels).

Just installing mine now - onto my TRD Sport. It looks like you leave the 2 factory skid mounting brackets on (front only for Sport) and replace 4 of the bracket bolts with those on the skid plate. These bolts don't go into the same holes as the factory skids and are much beefier. Those that have installed, what did you do? Seems they should stay to help reinforce the frame between the two mount points.

I will add, per the instructions this is designed such that you can use the front jack point with skid plate in place (area right behind access door). I'd say it's pretty stout.

Did you guys use a Torque wrench to torque them down to spec ?

Or just use a socket wrench until they were tight?

Harbor Freight, they always have extra 20% of coupons and are cheap to begin with. Mine was calibrated the same as my mechanic neighbor's that cost much more.

A good torque wrench is one of your best investments if you're going to be wrenching. It gets pretty costly once you start stripping threads/snapping bolts.

This one works for me, checked it against an expense Snap On torque wrench.

    Mark,
Can the aero molded fairing below the front bumper remain with the new TRD skid plate installed; looks like you removed your fairing? Thanks, Mike
