Ed, did you use the provided 5mm Allen head bolts with the Talon plate for the two most rearward bolts on the TRD skid plate (looks like it in the picture)?

I attempted to use them but stripped the head of one of them when torquing to 21 ft. lbs. Had to grind the head off to remove it. Went to a local store and purchased bolts with a hex head. Threw the rest of them away.

Awesome, thanks for the quick replies. That clears it up.

Yes, I used the bolts from the Talon CAT plate...but I might just put the bolts I got from the TRD Skid Plate.

Those security bolts & hex bolts (or allen heads) seem to be an issue (PITA) to deal with so maybe swapping out a regular bolt next to the security bolt may work better.

The bolts I got with the TRD skid plate were too short to work with the Talon plate so I had to use the Talon bolts. Otherwise I wouldn't have even bothered with them.

I would recommend swapping to regular hex head bolts with hexagonal heads if you're going that way. They're M8x1.25 2 inch bolts.

    I hadn't even considered that...lol

Guess I can keep the original bolts that came with the Talon on there...I currently have the security bolts on. I bought the security bolts...but I think I jumped the gun...oh well, live and learn.

Ah, yeah, I didn't purchase the security bolts. To me the plate is just a deterrent, move on to the next easy vehicle. If somebody wants them that bad, then they can have them.

Good for you...save the $60 for something else.

Like you said, the plate is just a deterrent.

And i can confirm that you can install a Fumoto or other quick-access drain plug AFTER the skid plate is installed, if so inclined...

    :anonymous:

It does not stick out at all from the skid plate and nicely keeps from making a mess with the oil drain plug and wrenches/sockets.

    OMG!

I had to LOL about this considering what I’ve read about that valve!

I have not done my own oil change since the Dealership 2yr MX is in effect.

But when I do my own, I will find out the dirty details of this task.

Ordered 11/28, arrived today 12/14. The skid plate travelled 2991 miles from Prestige Toyota in Kingston NY to my home in Oregon. Their communication was good, and you can always go in and check status. I didn’t get it as inexpensively as some but the $306 deal w/ free shipping was the best I could find by a chunk - they prob sold a crap ton at that price point.
When I saw the ‘tv’ side of the box I was stoked, it was perfect, but when I saw the other side I was concerned. However, it appears that everything is present, all spacers, bolts, retainers and even the small cardboard customer/glovebox card, and the skid is in very good shape.
I’m happy, and if I wasn’t so busy I’d be bolting that bad boy on. Soon enough - I’ll post a couple pics once it’s on, will probably install the Redarc trailer brake setup and the brake / running light wiring tap from @Puppypunter (awesome guy!) the same day. Merry Christmas to me - and Merry Christmas to y’all. HOH

    Oh...WOW!

Glad the plate arrived with no damage and components present. That is quite a ways for it to travel Ground and stay intact.

Look forward to the install of everything you mentioned!

Guys, it’s just a skid plate. Skid plates are about as sexy as a nut cup. Buy your significant other some flowers or take out the trash. :)

i do that all the time and then some. 34 years together, 29 of it married. She likes my Tacoma, gets into what I do to it and my classic cars/ trucks too. Whether it has a skid plate, a blower, flathead powered or has a nut cup. That’s called a keeper. Sorry that we get so excited about ‘mundane’ mods.;) :D HOH

I'm in it for the long haul too!

Married 31 and been with 32 years.

Every relationship is different and goes through eye-opening conditions. I've learned quite a bit in over 3 decades...more than half my life!

One or more personality traits will be unchanged (in both parties) but working through and compromising (I've learned it's never 50/50) takes serious commitment. I must stop right there because this isn't therapy! lol

As for the TRD Skid plate being sexy...I believe it's just an expression not to be taken literally. One thing that should be learned in LIFE is a good sense of humor...just sayin'. (Oh, I'm working on it too)

EDIT: Have you seen this close-up? Come on, man! That's sexy!!! lol

My wife finally noticed it this week. I told her I removed the Air Dam (she knew what that was) and she asked, "was that under there?" My answer..."yes dear".
