He says its for tacoma, but my vin# info says it won't fit. 2017 sport. I'm thinking of ordering it anyway?

I think the reason is the air dam on the Sport...?

Don't. Was going to order one. Toyota parts website shows that it fits pretty much all Taco models including my SX. Before pulling the trigger I googled the part # & per the original pdf from 2016 (still applicable) it's only for OR & Pro.

Probably the system cross-referencing what models it comes on from the factory. Since the Sport doesn't have a skid plate it would reject the VIN as being incompatible. Just like the TRD Sema wheels not being "compatible" on the Tacoma since it's linked to a 4Runner but they work just fine.

Aftermarket skid plates work on Sport models so I don't see why the TRD skid plate wouldn't work as well. The bolt holes are the same underneath.

ETA: You do have to remove the air dam to mount the skid plate. That could be another reason. The OR and Pro models don't come from the factory with one. All other models do.

I put my VIN in the process of ordering and it verified fit for my 2021 Sport. It's also included in the INITIAL email notification sent to me.

Just placed my order for one for $306 shipped. I’ve been waiting for a decent deal to finally get one.

Yup just ordered mine. $306 including shipping. No big deal to me if it’s on back order. I am in no particular rush just happy to be able to purchase it at such a reasonable. price. The cheapest I have seen it prior to this has been $354. So $306, yeah I’m in.

I'm going to ask for a delivery address CHANGE to a friend's house...then I can pick it up from there.

For all the TRD Sport owners fearing compatibility of the TRD skid plate on your trucks … from all that I have read to date, The only real issue is the ram damn/chinstrap needs to be removed. All the bolt holes should be there already and the TRD skid plate should just bolt on once the chinstrap is removed. To the best of my knowledge they did not change frames between trim models.

I went ahead and ordered my TRD skid plate last night for my 2019 TRD Sport. Stay tuned ….

I laughed out loud when I read this post. This is how I handle my guitar purchases.

    Darn it!

I was hoping to hide the TRD Skid Plate for a little bit. Knowing my luck, my wife will look under the belly of my truck and ask, "did that come with the truck?" lol

"And why is the air dam removed?" (Like she knows the names of these components!)

Ed, if it's any consolation, it took my wife till the 3rd drive with me after it was installed to notice. Even then, the only reason she noticed at all was because of the red D-ring hooks dangling off the front. Just don't let her approach your truck from the front at a distance and you'll be fine :anonymous:

And I will second what @Chicken_Taco said about the TRD Sport - mine fit just fine with the air dam off.

    HAHAHAHAHA!!!

I'm probably making a mountain out of a molehill.

Ever since I had the notion to buy a Truck as my next mode of transportation, my wife and daughters have ALL been against it. Their reasoning being:

"What do you need a Truck for?"

I used the SUVs I had to perform the duties a truck does...but it's all about image with them (in my opinion).

Trucks use lots of fuel and are owned by a certain brand of people...those are the two top drivers I believe have occupied their minds.

I rationalized the engine size of the Tacoma was the same size as the Pilot and smaller than the CX-9 (3.7L) but that still did not change the perception.

My family knows I'm gonna do what I'm gonna do...and they can have their opinion.

I'm glad I have family that gives me a hard time about my choice in owning a truck. I would say they are concerned about my well-being but it seems a little selfish on both sides.

Just for good measure I added a TRD badge to the grill this morning.....red to match the TRD lettering on the skid plate and the D-ring hooks...

That RED matches perfectly with my tailgate letters:
