Getting tired of taking off and putting the front black skid plate/dust shield off to access oil filter during oil changes. It's to the point where I'm considering buying one of those TRD Pro shields that has the little door on it to access the oil filter. Does anyone know if these shields fit on an SR5? 2017 V6.

    Part number: PTR60-35190

I do, and yes it has a removable section to access the filter.

I am adding a Fumoto valve next time I do an oil change though.

Buy a Motivx removal adapter and their oil drain tube as well to redirect oil around the skid plate.

No need for that. Filter changes are easy when done correctly.

Draining the oil out is what gets messy.

Can you keep the front air dam on during install or does that have to be taken off permanently?

Don't know. The Off-Road's don't come with the air dam's. I believe it needs to be removed.

Toyota parts department says $400 for the skid.

For $50 the OP can get the TRD Oil Cap ... a guaranteed +10 HP.

I installed a knock off version on my SR5 a while back. I also had to remove the lower air dam thingy. It will not fit back on properly after the skid plate is installed. I don't consider it a loss or problem. Without it you have more clearance in front like the TRD off road and I think the truck looks better without that anyhow.

It will fit, will fit even 2nd gens.
Air dam will not fit after installing the skid plate.
There is an access hole for the oil drain plug.
There is a door to gain access to the oil filter.

Someone mentioned messy oil changes, but If you have a Fumoto, you can drain oil straight into a jug and never worry about making a mess. Open the valve, change the filter, and by the time you finish the filter your oil is drained. Even the longest Fumoto will not stick out pass the skid plate, so you do not have to worry about it getting sheered off by debris.

Yeah I have a oil filter drain kit with a hose and a Valvomax oil drain plug (like fumoto but more durable).

I decided to just cut a hole in my front skid and create an access door after reading about MPG loss after removing air dam. Looks like it accounts for .5-1 MPG loss which doesn't sound like a lot, but adds up over time.
