Anyone purchase a aftermarket Trd pro skid plate? If so, where and what was the quality. Just looking to replace the Black stock one that is on my 2021 Tacoma Trd off-road 4 x 4.

    thx in advance

I did. I’m sure it’s a real copy because it has the trd letters but were covered with two plates bolted together so you couldn’t see the letters. The hardware was trash though.

Stock “skid plates” are useless for protection if you are actually off-roading your truck. It’s more of a splash/brush guard. They are also very thin.

Trd skid plate is actually 6.5 mm aluminum, very durable.

I bought a knock off trd skid plate and I love it. Excellent protection off-road and I like how it looks.

If you had “good luck” with yours then you clearly don’t off-road.

You seriously telling me that the garbage stock tin can splash guards can take an impact?

6.5 mm aluminum skid plate is 10 times stronger than what comes on your truck. Dude, trd plate is not for aesthetics only, haha. Please, don’t spread misinformation.

The Pro plate offers way more protection than the stock steel ones. It's not even comparable. It's not the most hardcore one out there but its a huge upgrade over the stock steel ones. If you saw both off the trucks in person you'd see what we mean.

I didn’t buy aftermarket but paid $500 CAD from Toyota and that included the swap.

Then I sold the factory black plates for 100$ to a guy that wanted them for scrap metal.

so all in all; pretty happy.

I've got the fake pro skid as well and I can't tell any difference between it and the real one except the trd stamp and letters. At half the price it was a no brainer for me20210116_155150_HDR.jpg

    Nice.

Yeah, no way I was gonna spend 800$ on a piece of aluminum. This one was 350$ and to be honest, it looks identical to the Toyota one.

I do a fair amount of light offroading on the weekends and a tiny bit of rock crawling (if you can call it that). OEM Skid plates work but will not last very long if you're using them regularly. This is my oem skid plate after 3 or 4 trails.

The stock steel plates are really just splash guards.

Only pro comes with trd skid plate. The rest of trims come with thin steel splash guards.

Why trd skid plate won’t last long? Just because it is scratched and dented, doesn’t mean it bad or anything. If you off-road your truck, any skidplate will look like that after a few trips.

This is the POS that comes on all trims except for PRO.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
My TRD skid plate only cost me $199. I bought a "scratch and dent" from a local dealer. It had (and I swear) a 1/4" long scratch near the rear bolts that could barely catch a fingernail.

Far more substantial than the splash guard that came with my TRD OR. I then added RCI skids on the rest of the truck to complete the underside armor.

There are a number of gouges and it's getting nicely dented considering the number of hits its taken. If I was using it more regularly and rock crawling everyweek or buying an aftermarket skid plate I would get a steel one.

With that said it's a great skid for what it is and works great for probably 99% of us (myself included). It's certainly not cosmetic like the standard ones. It's taken a few good hits already and I've been impressed with it. So much so that I got an aluminum transmission skid from OK expedition in the same thickness.

I have had my Faux TRD Pro Skid Plate for about 2 years now, and still is holding up pretty well.
    DSC_3602.jpg
It is pretty much identical to my friends OEM skid plate other than the "bump" that is suppose to reinforce the jackpoint.

I got mine straight from the manufacturer for around $150.
