Why would you promote it unless you sold yotas or worked for them?

I understand that (I've had a couple marketing classes) The point is, not everyone is a Toyota fanboy. I have no problem calling them out when they do something dumb, like this

Hard to disagree with. I am still very happy with my 08. If Toyota felt their philosophy was hurting their bottom line I am sure they would address it.
There is nothing exciting about the TRD pro IMO. While t is too bad they didn't throw the new TRD wheels on the Tacoma, the Faux locks are a nice look for the truck.

It "works" because the Wrangler is a specific niche vehicle that has no real direct competitor. And the Taco currently had one real competitor that is just as old. If you try the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" method in a much more competitive segment, it's not going to bode well for sales. When the midsize segment actually gets fresh competition next year we will see how well their neglect of the segment will turn out.

I think it would be cool if they released a model like the Raptor. Factory tuned, lifted, ready to wheel off the showroom floor.

I'm just not sure what everyone expected here... Did you think they would partner up with SDHQ or All Pro and offer a full aftermarket long travel truck? They are trying to sell vehicles, a factory long travel Tacoma would be 50k, and nobody is going to spend that on a Tacoma. Sure its a rebranded Baja, but now the Tundra and 4Runner are in on it two, should create a little more brand identity, plus it doesn't have that awful sticker on the side...
