Ah damn I knew I was missing out as I didn't see any updates on this thread! I just broke in my gears, but as Dave said its def worth it especially with 35s for the same interstate reasons. Some guys said that long distance drives on 35s on hills with the stock gears can wear them out over time and so when I went to dirties I figured might as well. I think many guys have gotten away with not regearing though...that said my MPGs from 285s were about 13.5 and with the regear Im at about 15. I have a lot of armor and reinforced components though which might make my MPGs not as efficient, but I got no complaints. The truck drives very balanced for thirty fives and cruises around well. I also agree, with 285s it likely isn't worth it to regear unless you KNOW you will never go with dirties. If that is the case, you can always get some 4.30 gears which I think will get similar results as dirties will get with 4.56s.

I almost get the feeling that everyone has their second gens for sale for the right price. I must be the only nut that has no intention of selling my truck.

All this makes sense about the gearing. I’m not intending to sell. I’d only consider it if someone really wanted to buy mine. And even then I don’t know if I can do it.

I always look to see where they are at because I know they are rare and you can’t find one just anywhere. I’ve found a couple actually (smurfs) and a couple cements. All fairly priced and not too far from me.

I just don't know why someone would buy the new sticker price on a smurf and then turn around and sell it so quick. I mean that's like a 4k minimum loss right?

Dammit. That is the first Tundra I have liked since they changed from the early 2000 design.

Bigger tires help a lot. My co worker has a 16 Tundra Pro and I always joke that it skipped leg day. The silly Michelin LTX Tires that come factory on those trucks don’t help either.

If I had to get a new truck between the 3rd gens, t4rs, and tundras.. It’d definitely be a Tundra. I wish they offered more colors for the Platinums. Im hoping Toyota brings back the TRD Pro next year for it.

They started to grow on me, I wanted to get into a cement pro tundra... but these socal dealers are a pain lol.

Yup, wheels and tires would be the first thing on it.

I was driving a Tundra around yesterday. Nice to have room for adults in the back seat, but I felt like I was driving a school bus compared to my Taco. I love the midsize truck.

I have read the instructions, but sadly it wont get here until the following Friday after new years. From what I have taken away is this...

    • Disassemble the drivers side front dash which encompasses the upper and lower bezels to get access to the instrument panel
    • Identify your actual tire size height...mine are 315/70/17 which with a 17x9 rim comes out to 33.5 inches in height
    • Plug in the programmer into the electrical connector located behind the drivers lower plastic bezel\
    • Permanently plug in the speedometer calibrartor into a two way clip behind the dash instrument panel
    • Make sure that ALL items that can be energized with the vehicle while it is off has the fuses removed...this means any accessory lights, CB, and the fuse to the satellite radio if your truck came with one
    • Cycle through the install interface portion via the programmer controller that you plugged in the bottom bezel (20-30 min time)
From what I understand, the programmer will try to fully assess your vehicle in its stock capacity to a reasonable extent and will try to accommodate any system if it has power to it, the satellite/onstar thing is strictly its own unique beast for this. During the whole programming process they stress in the instructions that you don't open the door, cycle anything electrically besides having the truck on, but keep the motor off. Once you designate your stock tire size and new tire size it will then ask the same for your gearing ratio, which doesn't mean you need to have new gears in order to use this as you would just indicate the same gear ratio for that portion. After it finalizes the program, then you should be good to disconnect the programmer at the bottom and stash the calibrator piece somewhere behind the dash.

These are the instructions if you want to check it out.
