very interesting info.....truth be told I was HOPING I'd see a tiny bit better MPG's as I mostly drive around town and in stop and go traffic.....BUT.....I didn't buy them for that.....I think they look just damn cool!.....that's they real reason......I think they match my inferno much better!

Here's a couple more new photos....

Unfortunately, the van isn't a syncro. I wish it was, but when I was looking I found a really good deal on this one...about $10k less than a comparable syncro. I figured I have the truck and my wife's 4Runner if I need to scratch my 4wd itch. It is loads of fun though, and gets some interesting looks.

Don’t wait too long. Every time I look at Vanagon prices on the samba I cry a little. I remember being in college back in 2000 and I almost bought a half decent Syncro for $5k but talked myself into a GTI instead. The same van is probably $30-40k today.

Wow, those are a huge improvement, I was never a fan of the black 2nd gen Trd rims, I'd love to see these on a black truck as well.
You may see one, I noticed when I went from tires with 60k mi to brand new I lost one, which is probably comparable (I wanted to weigh the old tires, but didn't feel like having to dispose of a tire later).

I have always wanted a truck like this, but couldn't understand the stratospheric pricing; until I read an article a while back about how they are super hot in Japan and even complete rust buckets are fetching amazing money..

I keep hoping, but don't think they will ever be affordable for me...:pout:

I'm a bit old school and bit quirky with a pick an acronym (ADHD, OCD...

My family has a 78 westi we just finished restoring. Yes, the taco is more capable than a bus, but is no where near the coolness factor you get from a synchro. At least to most people.

Still a pretty cool vanagon, I'm with the people regarding the old school factor. I've just always liked retro buses. I know probably not the most practical vehicle but that's why we all have tacomas. I also could have had a splitty bus for like 10k a few years back. Now they are selling upwards of 40k . Oh well, live and learn

Anyone on here upgrade their speakers and notice a difference? Been looking at speakers but don't want to go the whole amp and sub thing since I'm not looking for that much of a drastic improvement in sound.

I have a OEM+ 450Q Reference System on order. Should be here next week, and if so it will go in over next weekend. Not cheap, but truly plug-and-play, keeps the factory head unit in place (stealthy), and fully reversible. I'm not looking to get my license plates vibrating either, but I want a little more volume and much better sound quality. I'm not interested in swapping out for a aftermarket head unit that will be obsolete in a few years, and I do everything with my phone through Bluetooth anyway. You can skip the amp and just get the speakers if you want. Lots of good reviews, and so far their customer service has been very good.

Yep, I did the Focal IS 690 setup. It's nice, and much less than $1000 it'd cost for amp + sub. Can add an amp later down the road if I decide to power the speakers.

I had a '67 Westfalia poptop I sold for $1700 back in 1992. It had rocker panel rust and floorboard rust but I had cut it out and riveted in aluminum roof flashing with roof tar as sealant. Also had a fresh 1776cc dual-port motor I built. A methhead mutt named Andrew Briar stole it and trashed it, I had a locking gas cap on it and the gas neck was destroyed when I got it back from the impound yard.

I found the mutt's driver license in the van when I got it back, called the prosecutor and asked if I could get restitution, he laughed, said "You can't get restitution, but if you know anybody at Folsom for the next three to five years you can get retribution."

Adds a digital sound processer and amp to the factory system without cutting anything. Comes with a full wiring harness, plug-and-play speakers, and an add-on woofer if needed. 380 watts total output for the Tacoma access cab version, but they focus more on sound quality than volume levels. They seem to sell a lot of these to people with leases and company cars due to the reversibility and stealth. I had my system configured to also drive the little factory headliner speakers while staying below their max power capacity, and I did not choose to add rear half-door speakers. OEM+ seems pretty sophisticated, and they offered to set it up however I liked. I can't wait to get it installed.

Yes. Go to their home page, then products, then pick Toyota to see all the options. You need to then tell them what head unit you have - base or premium - so they can program the sound processor and configure the wiring harness. Next any special requests - for me it was driving the AC headliner speakers, but for a DC there might not be anything to add. Good guys so far, and very responsive.
