Instead of the Icon 3-Leaf AAL, I'm looking at replacing the entire leaf pack with their RXT leaf pack, set to Option 1. Should I be okay with the stock brake lines and such on the Baja? The Option 1 is only 1.875" above stock, unloaded. The only constant weight I'll be having on/in the bed is my full-size spare and its mount or hard tonneau cover. I PM'd Wheeler's Offroad but am not sure if they're working over the holiday weekend.

For only 1.875” you should be ok without having to do your brake lines. That’s assuming your not wheeling making your truck flex a ton. Light stuff I’m sure will be fine. These are pricey man. I believe Dakar’s are a bit cheaper, why not buy those and take a leaf or 2 out??

You're talking about these, correct? I'm looking at the Icons too. I don't carry a ton of weight often, so was thinking about the Icons, but they are pricey... Need to start looking into this more.

Yup, those are the ones. I had those on a previous build I did. They raise the rear 2.75. The only thing to make sure is if you can indeed remove a leaf to lower the intended height......those icon’s are nice though. I’ve debated a new rear set myself from time to time. This time around I know I wouldn’t want the 2.75” the Dakar’s offer so the 1.825” sounds perfect....but pricey

Yeah I hear ya.....if you do go with the Dakar’s, you won’t go wrong. You’ll love em. Also, because of the height whether you wheel it or not I’d do you rear brake lines to be on the safe side.

If you are on the stock rear baja shocks with the spacer for brake lines you should be fine. I had zero issues on mine until I went with an extended travel shock. I absolutely love my rear rxt springs I have the full pack in and it still rides super soft granted I drive around with probably 350+lbs in the back. These springs are really plush I don't know who builds them for Icon but they really are a great set of leaf springs.

So with the rxt pack, if I wanted it to be like my stock pack and raise me only the 1.825” (I don’t haul or have any weight I.e. racks or tent etc.). I’d remove the added leaf correct???....

When I got my spring pack it was configured for stage 1 so I just bolted it up then later added the spring for stage 3 due to a camper, rear bumper etc.... If it's still the same you should just be able to bolt the pack in as the added leafs came separate from the leaf pack. It's super simple I did use some C clamps to disassemble and reassemble it for stage 3. The rear end seems as soft as my 5th gen with Icon overland progressive springs and custom valved shocks I was seriously surprised how well they ride.

Ok cool. So the added leafs come separate for stages 2~3 and if you have added weight that you haul around then it’s on you to make your pack a stage 2 or 3 respectively

That's how mine was set up when sent to me. I would imagine they are still the same since most people probably don't need to run stage 3 from the get go..

Makes sense to me. Do you remember if you had to buy a set of bushings. Dakar’s only come with I believe the fronts making you have to buy a set for the rear. That didn’t make sense to me when I got them.....bushings only on one end of the spring pack. :der:

It came with bushings on both ends so it was good to go.

Dakar's are too stiff for my needs. I don't have a shell or enough weight to make use of it. My stocks are flattening out, I just noticed. I don't want to band-aid it with AAL's with the condition of my stocks. Fortunately, I can afford it so I might as well get it done right the first time

Nice....bushings are relatively cheap but makes the 700+ a little easier to deal with.

I hear ya. Early on I wanted some height so I went with the icon progressive aal giving me the 1.5”. A new pack and a little bit more at the 1.8” would be awesome.

Gotcha. I nearly pulled the trigger on the progressive 3-Leaf AAL but feel it's kinda too late to now. I'm not necessarily looking for the additional height too much. Mostly need something stronger than stock and keep my rear from sagging when I keep my full-size spare in the bed

I added a 1/4” top plate to my front coil overs then with the 1.5 to the rear it gave the truck a great added amount of lift without it being too much. Also no worries if any vibes. I’d like to go that tad little bit higher in back.

Hey 04TacoRunner - you sold me. Icon's it is. I have a question though... :D

Do you know why some kits spec full replacement leaf packs and extended travel shocks but do NOT call for longer rear brake lines? For example:

That kit has the rear Fox shocks from a Tundra - 2.5" FOX-883-24-006, more travel (9.4" total) with a piston revalve for the Taco. AccuTune advocates in this article the use of the 2.0" 985-24-117 or 985-26-118 w/ DSC, which have 9.6" of travel:

    To quote the article:
"Full replacement Tacoma Leaf Packs are capable of much more travel than mini-packs and there are a lot of options for shocks depending on what your goals are. Because replacement packs are capable of a lot more travel than stock, they should be set to deliver at least two inches of lift. For direct fit bolt on 2.0 shocks you’ll want to run a 2″ bump stop spacer and 3.5-5″ lift [Ted: rear shock spec] for almost 10″ of travel (that’s correct, most shock companies incorrectly list lift heights, give us a call and we’ll get you the longest shock that’ll fit correctly)."

Also... I'm almost embarrassed to ask, but to confirm - do the rear shocks actually stop droop in shorter lengths (i.e., stock length)?

My stock rear shocks are on their way to pushing up daisies (one is leaking, both are losing their dampening capabilities). So I'm looking at doing a complete suspension overhaul. Truck has 93k-ish on the ticker.

Time to pull out the plastic :spending:
