Your highlighted portion is in regards to articulation. It allows for more suspension travel. The Baja has 1.75” of extra height up front and nothing extra in the rear. The rear has the 3 leaf + overload.

So it would be 2.75” total in the front and stock off road would be 1” in the front?

What are you asking about in particular, ride height or travel? That article is explaining that the Baja has an additional 1” of travel for the front and an additional 1.5” of travel for the rear. If you’re asking about ride height, the Baja is 1.75” higher in the front over the off-road, sport and SR5 models

Just trying to figure out if I can fit 285 tires on 17” rim on my Baja stock suspension without adding a suspension lift of 3” front and rear. The Baja comes with stock 16” Rim with 285 tires and there was no rubbing, I traded them out for the 17” rims and 265 tires that look smaller

Honestly you won’t know until you try it. I pulled the trigger on 296/75R16’s mounted on the 16” beadlock style wheels. I had the CMC done at the same time, flattened the pinch weld(seam sealed and sprayed with undercoating) prior. After test driving, I figured out where else I had to trim which ended up being the lower corners of the fender flares and the wheel liners. After that I only sliiiightly grazed the UCA’s when reversing at full lock on dips and rubbed the top of the wheel wells if I really drove into major dips fast.

Here is what I’d do......I ran this set up for quite some time and loved it, as well as others on here.
For the rear, buy an “progressive add a leaf” from wheelers or icon. That will get you 1.5” added to the rear. It’s like a small leaf pack that gets added to the existing spring pack....

For the front, you can either add a 1/4” top plate spacer to your coil overs (this will raise you an additional 1/2”. So you’ll be at 2.25” total and your truck will have a very slight rake.
Or....you can do a 1/2” top plate spacer (this will require extended hardware for the top of the coil overs (no biggy). This will give you just under a inch so you’ll be at 2.5”ish in front and no rake ......providing you did the progressive add a leaf in back.

guess I will have to pull the trigger and do it as trial and error LOL.... I just figured someone on here put some 285’s on some 17” rims with the Baja stock suspension but I guess not

I’ve gone through a LOT of trial and error lol. That’s a for sure way of learning. People have put 17” wheels on the Baja’s before but so much becomes a factor, as @JuanitoBunito was mentioning about the offset/backspacing and width. There are hundreds of aftermarket wheels out there that there are no definite answers, not to mention the different types of tires. If you’re dead set on those wheels and tires, go for it man. You can make the needed adjustments after. Play offroad a bit and trim accordingly

Adding a leaf I will look into... spacers are not favored by many outlander taco rigs and it puts to much stress on the suspension is what I read. Planning to put a smitty xl tent on the back of the bed so it makes sense to put the leaf, the front coil supposedly what they use on motorhomes so not worried about the front

Do a progressive add a leaf......it’s different than just a leaf. For the front, you can also do the 1” toytec spacer. It’s safe. It is a spacer specifically made for the Baja/pro suspension.

Just looking at the pic, they look like they poke out past the fender a little.......if the do, I’m sure 285’s will fit.

I’m pretty confident you will be able to get your 285’s on. You may have to do some very minor trimming to the black plastic in the front of the wheel well.....it’s minor, very minor. With 285’s, I’d definitely would lift it a little so it looks better with the bigger tire. I’ll send you the links
