Well boys. I bought a 22 Pro with a manual. I’m switching over a few things from my current truck before it will officially be for sale. I’m going to offer it at a great price. If you know me. You know I am meticulous. I’m the guy you wanna buy a vehicle from. I have a huge stack of receipts of everything I’ve had done. So, if you or someone you know is interested. Please look at my build page. If you are serious, please pm me with any questions. As of now, it’s just a feeler so to speak. But it’s happening.

I checked it out online and it looked like the something fell on the tailgate plus the miles are a bit high, thanks for the heads up though

Figured this may be a good place to get some insight... my truck isn't a Baja/Pro but it's currently on the Pro Bilstein suspension and I'm thinking of making some tweaks to the front with some parts I happen to have on hand.

    Current Setup:
    • Bilstein Pro suspension front and rear. 3/8" thick strut top spacers in the front. Headstrong Offroad 3 leaf AAL in the rear.
    • Steel IFS/mid skids, BAMF sliders, planning to add aluminum transfer case skid soon. Normally keep ~100lbs in the bed but for trips it can get quite loaded down with gear (best guess would be an additional 200-300lbs in the bed and another 200lbs in the cab).
    • With this setup my axle center to fender measurements are: 22.5" front / 24.5" rear
    • Although my question is only about the front suspension, it's worth noting that I've already picked up an Icon RXT leaf pack and plan to run option 2.

I really like the setup (but I also have close to zero experience with trucks and offroading). But, I wouldn't mind going a little higher and was thinking a slightly higher spring rate may be good for the weight.

But back to the front... I have a set of Baja front coilovers + Toytec preload spacer on hand. The shocks are high mileage but seems the springs or Toytec spacer could be swapped on to my truck to add lift and/or help control the weight (hopefully all without making the ride more harsh/stiff). I'd love to hear what your experiences have been with these parts and if anyone has an idea of how some of these different options may compare. I'm leaning towards #1.

    1) Pro shocks + Baja springs + Toytec spacers
    2) Pro shocks + Baja springs
    3) Pro shocks + Pro springs + Toytec spacers

Thoughts? Anyone ever swapped Baja/Pro springs before?

Never swapped the springs on my original Baja setup. I did have the toytec spacer and later on I added a 1/4” top plate for a little extra. I liked it a lot. In the rear I had a icon progressive aal then switched to the icon rxt(you’ll love them).

I didn't mention it in favor of keeping things simple but what I didn't mention is that regardless of whichever route I go I figured I could use 1/4" or 3/8" spacers to tune the height if needed even if it's just to balance the taco lean. Thanks for the info on your experience - it makes me feel like it's a good route to go. Of course, I could run into some odd ball compatibility issues - not to get off on a tangent... the baja and pro having the same amount of lift but different spring rates makes me wonder what the actual differences are besides rate and valving. Theoretically the Baja would sit higher with the higher spring rate so it makes me think if they changed the length of the spring and/or perch locations to compensate. I guess I'll find out.

Did you have much weight on yours when you were running that setup?

I believe the height on both were the same. The only differences were the spring seats but that didn’t play anything with the height of each. If you add a top plates, make sure you add extended hardware so three screws can reach the nuts on top of the top hat. I didn’t have any weight on the truck. I didn’t tow either.

Whenever I get around to this I planned to compare the parts so I could document and understand the differences a bit better. We'll see. As for the top plates... I didn't plan on running anything thick enough to require new studs. So far I've run a 3/8" spacer on two different sets of coilovers and there was just enough room to fully seat the nuts. Ideally, I'll be able to run no spacers at all or maybe just one 1/4" spacer for lean. Getting rid of my current spacers is part of the allure of putting in the Toytec one.

I initially did 1/4 then went to 1/2, that’s when I needed the longer studs. I just did it for get a little higher. And that’s with the toytec spacer

Fully collapsing the trailing arms makes it 2” longer than a stock Tacoma roughly

Adjusted the preload a bit to compensate for the sag from the winch and mount up front.
