if you average around 14 something isnt right......340 to 360 on 18 gal. around 20 on average,,,,,,,,, thats with my 265/75/16 6 ply toyo's... i noticed a little drop in power and mpg after i went from the 265/75/16 cooper at3's 4 ply,,, toyo's are a heavier tire... if you have the 8 ply bfg's that came on the pro, they are even heavier,, took mine off after 8000 miles,,, too harsh ride and too heavy,,

I've been averaging 14 since the day I got it. I just got new tires (285/75r16 KO2's) and a lift, installed a speedometer calibrator and I still get 14. I do have a heavy foot, a shell and a PrInSu roof rack though.

I have a winch, bumper, sliders, IFS and control arm skids, slightly more lift than normal Pro, 255/85/16 KM2s with a matching spare, CBI bed rack with a Surco rack on top of that, rifle case with recovery gear, hi lift/shovel/axe, home made bed tray from 3/4" MDF, and a snorkel. I get 15mpg I'd I hoon around, and 18.5 if I can keep it under 75 on the interstate. I'm going to regear to 4.56s in the fall, but haven't dedecide if I'm going to stay with 33s or get 35s. What speedo calibrator did you use?

    Hyperthech in-line.

Did a road trip this past weekend. All freeway. Was averaging about 15mpg in a loaded truck with 3 people and the dog on the way up to Big Sur, but on the way back it was 100F outside, I was gunning it and the AC was full blast for 200+ miles, plus we hit a bunch of traffic. I think I ended up being 13.9mpg.

Was getting about 17 average on my stock pro before the Arizona trip.....finally got about 8k on her and the mileage went up. Swapped out the bfg's for Firestone Destination AT's P265/75/16 and it went up a bit more (as per scan gauge and corrected speedo)...get 20+ on the highway....

What size were your old tires? There is no way new tires gave you 15% increase in fuel consumption. If you went with bigger tires, chances are your odometer is off now and you need a calibrator. Compare your speedometer with a GPS app.

Wow great thread. I have a lot of reading to do. I have a 2014 Baja myself. I've been very happy with it other then the crazy amount of rock chips on the rear fender flares. Any advice would be much appreciated. Here is a pic I took of my friend's truck and mine tom.jpg

Thanks very much . My main question would be what has worked best to stop the rear fender flares from getting ate up from rocks? I live in MN so I end up on gravel a lot . I could just never wash it again, worked good for my FJ

Ah , that's a tough one. Other than your mud guards probably not much. Those pesky rocks are gonna continue to get caught up in your threads no matter what you do so long as your on gravel.

that kinda sucks. It's pretty bad looking. I can deal with it though. I've never been one to baby my four wheel drive vehicles, I buy stuff to use it

Might as well at this point if it's as bad as you say it is.

Ouch, yeah I'd say so. Well, at least it's plastic so you won't have worry about rust.

The old tires were 265/70/16 8 ply BFG AT's, the new ones are P265/75/16 and yes, the mileage has been calibrated with a scan gauge and checked with a gps. There could be several things in play, my mileage increased a bit when I hit about 6k on the truck which I have seen happen with many vehicles I have owned. Also, the new tires are a fair chunk lighter than the old ones I was running, and also the old ones were running at 32psi which may have cut mileage a bit being 8 plys (Toyota Recommended 41psi but it rode like a brick) and it be summer so the gas changes here in Cali. As to speedo, it is now actually dead on and the odometer is under driven by 4% so was corrected in the scan gauge. With the old tires, the odometer was dead on and the speedo was under by about 4%. When I do a run down to Sacramento I average about 17.5mpg...truck gets 22+ as per the scan gauge going down the hill and about 16mpg coming back up...throw in some around town driving while I'm down there and it is pretty consistent at 17.5 for the tank. On a 2k trip recently I got a best of almost 23 and a worst of 16.5 (at 85mpg it sucks fuel)....at 65-70 on the flats in Nevada it got great mileage. The truck does have a shell on it, but we were also loaded with 2 folks and gear for a 10 day trip.
