A base OR (4x4) is ~ 11K less than a Pro. If that means anything to you.
AND you can have just as much fun with it!

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
    I got the TRD Off-Road. I think it's pretty capable off-road.

The only thing the TRD Pro has that I care about are the Fox shocks, which I can just buy later on from various vendors. Otherwise I don't care about the moonroof, leather seats, etc. that the TRD Pro comes with.

TRD Off Road is definitely just as capable as the Pro. Sounds like you made the right choice for your preferences.

Pretty much all been covered here. You said you don't plan to mod it for a while, is this because you are busy, or want to just enjoy it stock before making changes, or is because a money thing?

if you like bells and whistles on vehicles, get the pro over the OR premium as someone mentioned, its a mere 2-3k price difference. In 2-3k the additions of the premium to pro are much more than this(Trd sport wheels, catback, fender stamp, headrests, skidplate, headlight markings, fox shocks), plus the added limited production gives it a better resale down the road.

And if you are a "well i don't want a roof and can live without premium sound" then get the OR base model for 11k less and add some nice $1500 custom leather seat covers and upgrade the suspension and wheels and tires <3-4k in a few years.

Yes, the TRD OR is the better bang for the buck, by far.

If you decide you really want the Fox Pro shocks, you can always buy them off somebody parting them out from their Pro. The shocks are the only real difference between the two trims. Also, if you go w/ a TRD OR, you have the option to choose what type of shock you want to upgrade to.

I picked up a like new set of Fox Pro shocks from somebody on here for $1500 and stuffed them into my 2014 TRD OR. They are awesome shocks but definitely not worth the premium Toyota charges. I would not pay over $1500 for them, and you'll pay a much larger premium than that by purchasing a TRD Pro

Get the Pro, better resale and the ride is much better and has everything you will ever need. I have had both and can tell you the ride in the Pro is a huge improvement over the OR and quite frankly looks better not a fan of chrome and metal. JMHO

22 ORs have LED lights around. Small potatoes, but the Pro shift knob might as well have been made of Lego. That being said, I'd buy a Pro if the money didn't matter.

'22+ OR can have LEDs, but not all do. It is a cheap add if that's all you want.

    upload_2022-10-21_15-47-0.jpg

It's all personal preference. Make a list of must have features, look at the long term plan, choose accordingly. Doing that, I wound up at the Pro. I've got a buddy that did the same and he's in an SR with the SX package, and loving it. To each their own.

Go for the OR and use the savings to make the truck how you want to down the road. I did Alpine loop over Engineer and Cinnamon Pass bone stock (the aluminum predator steps did their job before I got sliders), very capable out of the box and with a manual.
My two cents...your milage may vary....

I agree. Despite being able to toss shit in the bed of a tacoma and use it as a truck, the 4runner is a better vehicle IMO. Especially if you don't need the open bed.

    Definitely a smoother powertrain. If I didn't need a truck I'd be in a 4Runner in a heartbeat.

Highlander (wife had to have 3rd row don't ask)+utility trailer worked for me for a while, but i still really missed having a bed. For some reason i commonly wind up with bulky or random shit i don't want on the inside of the vehicle, and having to bust out the trailer or hitch accessory box was getting old.

Yea the wife has an 05' and a new 22'. I secretly want my own but I do to much truck stuff and need the bed. I also notice better fit and finish on the 4runners. Probably because they're still made in Japan

One consideration should be the sunroof. I park outside and definitely did NOT want a hole in the roof, so I went with OR.

The pro has the terrible looking hood too. I know the OP got the OR and you can’t go wrong with that.
