Like others have said, it really comes down to preference and intended use.

I wanted leather seats (they're easier to keep clean, and they're heated). So once you get a loaded OR, the cost to upgrade to a Pro is pretty minimal considering what you get- a bit of lift, better suspension, skid plate, cat back exhaust, etc.

Warranty is also very important to me. I don't want to deal with non-factory parts and I'll never do anything with the truck that the stock Pro setup won't handle.

Resale is important to me as well. I don't intend to keep this truck more than a few years. I really want a PHEV or EV truck and plan on getting rid of the Pro as soon as I can get my hands on a Ranger or Tacoma with some electric propulsion. You can do a nationwide search for TRD OR and TRD Pros to see which is prevalent and which is rare. I'll bet I can sell a stock Pro with a 10/120 factory warranty (still on the fence about buying the warranty when the truck comes in) for good money when the time comes. Selling a modified OR is another story. The dealers will balk at giving it decent value and private buyers are limited to enthusiasts on the forums.

I park outside as well; I just picked up my TRD Sport with the factory sunroof and it rocks! As with most vehicles these days, if you don't want the sun beating down through the roof, close the shade.

My TRD Sport also has the Skewp; can't say I'm a fan. Why? Oddly enough, I don't really mind how it looks, however, I'm not a big fan of the visual obstruction.

You can even enjoy it in the middle of winter, on a sunny day sliding the shade open feels pretty good.

If you can get a Pro buy the Pro, the resale value on them are much better. If found one with NO MARK UP, I would've gotten one. You will mod :)

I have both the Tacoma and 4Runner 2022 TRD pro. Hands down the 4runner is much better build quality. If you put the seats down in back there's no reason to have a Tacoma actually. May be looking at trading or selling the Tacoma if something interesting came up just for that reason.

You ever move a fridge? Yes, you can use a trailer, but to say there is "no reason to have a Tacoma" isn't completely true.

    Agreed!

Also, if you have the money (eh-hem) and want to spoil yourself (uh-hem--you're retired), go with the Pro! (SKEWP drops panties!!!!) LOLOLOL

If you've got a threshold like I did, ($40K) go with the OR (have a trade-in + $5K to drop the out-the-door total price).

    @50Buck

Just this morning, a friend called me asking if I could bring my truck to Lowe's to help deliver plywood to his house. (The Lowe's truck was out of commission).

I told him just like I tell my family, "It's good to have a friend who has a truck!"

My family thinks I shouldn't have bought a truck so I find myself using moments like this to say, "You see? It's good to have a truck!"

Oh for sure, but I'm also tired of moving people's stuff for them, so I'm getting a tiny bed, putting a rack on it, and saying "Bummer. Should have bought a truck or a trailer." :p

I went with a ‘22 Pro instead of the off road. I wanted a loaded truck (leather, sunroof, LED, Ect). Once I priced it out there was not a large enough difference in price for me to go Off-road. IMO As for the dealer markup, all the dealers near me were charging a markup on every Tacoma they sold regardless of trim level.

I still have an 06 PreRunner Off-road that I have put 190k miles on, so I do have experience with the off road trim.

At 50 years old I have been down the modding and building road enough to realized that I don’t like the headaches or down time. My wife is also adverse to spending money on things that are not broken only better. So getting a “done” truck was a big plus.

My off-roading is typically mellow and the Pro setup fits my needs nicely. The only thing that I have added to my truck is a set of rock sliders and 12k miles so far. Before winter I am going to add a folding tonneau cover to hide our ski gear and keep thing dry when traveling. My dog gets the back seat. When the tires wear out I will likely stick with the stock size and get something more aggressive.

Could I have built a “better” or “more capable” truck for the same or less money? Of course you can. However, I would rather spend my time riding my bike and woodworking in the garage over “building” a truck.

Decide what is important to you, how much certain features are worth, and then find what you want and be happy.

Here is a pic of my Pro in Moab the week after I got it. 7400EFB9-3D2B-4323-9629-585E2220B3BD.jpg

Water is a greater concern than the sun. If you get a sunroof make absolutely sure its drain tubes remain clear.

For me, I would have bought the Pro but there wasn’t a longbed option so I went with the OR premium and put all of the OEM Pro goodies on it. I found the OEM TRD Pro Fox suspension to be far superior to the original OR shocks in pretty much every aspect.

I've had a sun/moon roof option on almost every car I've had since the 1970s and I have never once had to deal with an issue with water; if I did, dealing with the drain tubes is a non-issue.

    @Double B

The 50+ owners know what's up! lol

Glad you are enjoying the fruits of your labor.

I bought my Sport before I turned 55 in May 2021 and like it mostly because it was made for street driving...plus, it has the "Skewp!"

It's my first "New Truck" and a vehicle of my own choosing. I had a new SUV since 2002 and then a new sedan before that in 1996.

Now that we have married adult children, it was time for Dad to get what he wanted.

Considering we had just refinanced our mortgage in Mar/Apr of 2021, I figured a $40K threshold was a good trade-off. (Paid $38,803 MSRP)

I've spent roughly $5K in upgrades (that's an under guess dollar amount) and I've got it to where I like it.

I'll probably get more aggressive tires when the time comes and maybe even move up to 265/70R17s without doing a lift. (Keeping the OEM wheels)

Let's be honest, if money didn't matter it would be one of those Raptors with the V8 that cost 100k sticker or whatever they are.

My water issue was the rear brake light which Toyota in their infinite wisdom screwed in from the inside so you have to tear the interior apart to fix it. When people on here told me to check that I didn't believe it because it was going everywhere. Sure enough brake light lol.

Was your issue somehow related to the sun roof?

True. I don’t mean FU money though lol. I mean if the extra money didn’t matter. Some people probably barely afford the OR, that group shouldn’t overextend and buy a pro. If 50 is not sweat, by all means, buy the pro.
