Could buy an SR5 and make it look like a PRO with better suspension/tires for less money.

The OR is already more capable than most are. If you're not planning on hitting whoops and high speed desert runs, the weakest link in the OR is it's tires. They could use a much more aggressive tire. After that shocks would be the next upgrade.

This is pretty accurate, you might be surprised at what a stock truck can do

Is the TRD Pro perfect for everyone? Of course not. Is it perfect for you? Maybe. Here are my thoughts as a 2015 Pro owner:

Why not to buy a Pro:
    • You can buy the suspension parts and build a Pro for less $$.
    • Or you can buy suspension parts you like better and custom build one that suits you better for less $$. The Pro as-is isn't for everyone.
    • $$$. It's a big jump in price and hard to find a dealer willing to discount it.

    Why to buy a Pro:
    • Warranty: The suspension parts are designed for the truck and are backed by Toyota.
    • The Sport hood, the TRD wheels, the "TACOMA" grill, the black badges, etc. Beautiful package. (Can you add all of those + the suspension parts on an non-Pro and still come out on top?)
    • Prestige: every other Taco owner wants to be you. That's why they buy all the Pro stuff for their lesser trucks then rag on the Pro here

The suspension is perfect for my wants/needs and I appreciate the warranty. I love my truck. My Toyota buddies all love it too.
I bought mine used for a great deal. Would I have bought it new? No - but I never buy new vehicles.

But that's me. YMMV - and it's a good thing, cause I'd hate to see dozens of identical Tacos on my commute every day.

    Stock.
Yea I know this to be very true. My main reasoning would be to retain the stock ride and add a little bit more off-road ability.

My last Tacoma was a 2001, extra cab, 4x4, 5speed, 2.7. I took that little truck place jeep guys would question going. Always made it out too.

I know my new one will never be this good off-road stock because of size and weight. But I would like to make it as capable as possible without compromising on road ability.

They lost me with the Pro when they kept the offroad stock leaf springs and drum brakes. You don't get much except another color choice. Lifted trucks already have issues with the front diff bearing. How are they addressing that issue especially on a production model? To me its just another truck with offroad named parts to make more money without true advancement. Had they put a bigger motor and heavy duty axles with front and rear selectable lockers then I can see PRO but right now. On my TRD offroad I am still looking for the TRD part on the truck I bought. The closest I get is the no key start button. Still a nice truck though.

The TRD part is the first '3' in the price tag.

Like the BMW folks say, ///M stands for '///Marketing'. My 320i is no faster than a base Accord (before I installed a tune anyway), but it's got ///M stickers everywhere. Toyota has gone the same route with TRD.

    Agree with you 100%

However I don't believe that is how Pro demographic looks at it.

I used to be part of a race team that broke the 10s in 1/4 mile back in the day in a FWD car

It could whip a 575 maranello or a Challenge stradale 360 all day

However those guys wouldn't want to drive a 10 second import

The guy who buys a 40k limited or 43k Pro isn't he same guy who buys a SR or SR5 and makes it better

    Pro buyers are either
    1) buy the best oem with warranty and leave it stock

    2) buy the best oem and modify from there

I fall in category #2. Does modifying negate the car and could it be better to buy sr5 ? Of course

But I know a lot of people who buy a new 911 Turbo and go to sherkwerks and drop $50k to make it faster, buys a new 458 and drops $70k at Novitec to make it faster or buy new r8 or gallardo and TT or SC them

Could they buy a cheap hellcat and be just as fast? Of course.

But these are different demographics and different mindset

Choices in market is a good thing I believe . Fact that people can buy what they want and spend their money how they want makes America great ;) :)

Thank god I don't live in Singapore and pay 300-400k for a land cruise or a 7 series

I am disappointed with the TRD hype. Even more so with the Pro.
You don't get much for the extra cash.

Coming from Ford (don't hate) when a vehicle wears SVT badges, (mustang, raptor, Lightning) you get a very capable and vastly different package then you do with other options.

They cheaped out again, they give you LED fogs with the rigid name so fanboys can get wet and wank themselves off, how ever leave the headlights and high beams as low-end halogens. I like my TRS projector led fogs better.

The interior on the pro is indeed nice, the grille is better, but I've ordered the BAMF grille which is even more impressive. Fox 2.0 is nothing to right home about. They need to do a better set up, throw in aftermarket control arms, give the thing a 3 inch lift, and actually make it a TRD pro.

In my mind, the current PRO is what the TRD OR should be...

Everyone is always saying how you could just buy a trd off road, sr5 or whatever model and mod it to be more off road capable with better parts for less money.

While that may be true, when you go to sell that truck with all the mods on it you will not get that money back.

Where as if you get the trd pro, and eventually sell it later on down the road, you will get a lot more for it.

If you like the trd pro, money isn't an issue then buy it.

Some people enjoy modding their truck and want to make it their own and unique which is another reason to not get the pro.

As for myself i would simply just prefer to buy a capable vehicle from the dealer with a warranty. Don't have the time or interest to do mods myself.

This is likely. Fox will likely supply Toyota with a rebuildable design since that's what Fox makes.

In all honesty though if you are beating the crap out of aftermarket shocks they are garbage within a couple of years and need to be rebuilt or replaced. I've seen enough leaky 5100's and OME kits after only a couple of years. They aren't rebuildable but they are cheap enough that most people don't care.

The people I know who keep there Raptor as a show toy don't have to rebuild the shocks every 10K. It's more like every couple of years just like any other Fox, King, etc coilover in terms of rebuild time.

You won't get your money back on the Pro. It'll be worth, at best, a K or two more than a good TRD OR. This happens with every trim line. You don't get 10K more back on a Trail Teams 4Runner over an SR5 after 5 or 6 years. I'm surprised people think it'll be different with the TRD Pro.

The rest I agree with. Except you will still need to armor up a TRD Pro if you want to wheel in most places. The heavy duty TRD Pro skid plate doesn't cover all the soft spots nor does the truck have sliders.

I have a Raptor with 50k on her and the Fox shocks still ride great with no leaks. We recently purchased the 2016 TRD OFF ROAD and love it, too! Ive had several Tacomas and I'm very impressed with the 2016!FB_IMG_1465494751128.jpg

    Hers is nicer :)

I see tons of raptors in LA suburbs. In that desert storm color and many others

One I see running around with all aftermarket fenders etc

One thing I have to say, the Raptor has street presence like no other truck

People, including me, turn and look.

    Love it

Thank you! Yes, the Raptor is a different beast for sure. We supercharged it and added custom made Kook headers. Thing sounds like you're at the drag strip:burnrubber:
We bought the Tacoma more for everyday driving. The Raptor gets expensive at 10 mile to the gallon, but its a great time!!

Nothing wrong with building up a OR to be a PRO. There will be better or cheaper parts for the money, but build how you want.

Unrelated, the only reason I'd buy a PRO would be for the warranty on the parts and lift. Unless, your dealership will install and warrant a lift (and install of other parts). My dealership no longer performs lift installs with warranty.
