I’m not so sure. When I bought my truck, the toyota dealer I went to (a large dealer) had one manual truck in stock. An access cab sr 4cyl. Lol said they just don’t have a demand for it.

I've had three ZR2's a '96 regular cab, '96 ext cab, '03 ext cab. That body style is by far better than the carp they are making now. There are things I really like about the ZR2's I had and some I didn't same goes for my Tacoma, but the list of things I don't like is a bit longer on my Tacoma. Like the no illuminated 4wd switch (pure stupidity), silver trim instead of black, steering wheel position.

Is it really lack of demand or lack of inventory. Most people buy whats on the lot so if their options are limited, they buy whats available. A demand would require people to stop buying automatics not start buying manuals.

My friend owns a ZR2 and we are doing some wheeling tomorrow. Will report back. From what I've seen he has worse angles and his sliders are mounted to the body, not frame, so not sure how those will hold up.

So the ZR2 is surprisingly very capable for a stock truck. The ZR2 was able to accomplish most of the obstacles but anything harder that the Tacomas were doing the ZR2 couldn't do. The limiting factors were ground clearance, departure angle, and lack of legitimate skids on the bottom. The ZR2 also required more refined lines while the Tacomas had more room for error. The front locker is nice but after seeing it in action, I feel like the overall truck could never really be placed in a position to use it.

For the more challenging obstacles the Tacos could pick a good line and make it through pretty easy, the ZR2 definitely required a little more finesse and on the more difficult terrain had to bail, going around.

It's certainly more capable than a stock Taco but a mildly built Taco will outperform it imho.

Side Notes: The sliders are mounted to the body, not the frame, a decent hit on the slider may cause additional body damage that a frame mounted slider likely would not cause.

Personal Opinion: The ZR2 is nice and is capable but feels a bit like the raptor in that they made an offroad truck with the expectation of it being on road 99% of the time. Comes across a bit gimmicky but thats to be expected with factory options.

So a mildly modded zr2 would out perform a stock Tacoma.....

These comparisons on a Tacoma form are a waste of space, of course die hard Toyota guys will always like the Toyota better. Btw I own a Tacoma and a 4runner, and think the zr2 at least differentiates itself from a regular Colorado, looks better IMO unlike the Tacoma where they all are the same truck as far as exterior styling goes

i agree with the exterior Styling for sure. I also don't mind that they built it for 95% use on road because most of us that is where we use it most then play some on weekends or bad weather or just going down mudding old roads to get to fishing hole. I do wish they would make the interior as nice as the Tacoma. I have a 16 Colorado z71 now and the interior is just so bland and all plastic. I think ill go test drive the Tacoma again next couple days now that dealer messed mine up and now I am stuck waiting on allocation for model I want and color I want. I drove the zr2 again yesterday at dealer and it rides definitely better than my z71. Handles bumps and stuff better and softer.

I agree the Colorado interior is boring. Two nice trucks though and more capable than 98% of the population will use them for

It’s not awful looking and the torque is nice but that’s about the only advantage

Duratracs, front locker, front bumper, sliders (better than none) diesel, socks(from the numerous reviews) and where I live almost 10 grand cheaper before negotiating or factoring interest rates.

I still think the Tacoma pro is bad ass, just not $55k bad ass

On the market as it were
Only on the Premiums. I don't think they do it on the trucks.

My brother's '11 GT has the selectable color option for the gauges. FIL's '14 King Ranch F-150 only has bright blue.

The plain Colorado is terribly ugly, ZR2 is worse. I like the torque of the engine though (would love if Toyota would take note of that)

I dont know if I would consider those advantages. Front bumper? Actually doesnt have any advantage over the Tacoma from what I saw. The front locker is nice yes but from what I saw, it can't really go anywhere that it would need a front locker, Duratracs seem better but didnt perform better than our stock tires. As far as cheaper, I got my Taco (non-Pro) for $36,500. Diesel is more of an opinion than anything.

I recently bought a Tacoma. The choice was between the Taco and the Colorado. I test drove both and it wasn't really that close. I read tons of information about both of these trucks for the past 2 years and most (if not all) of the online reviews favor the Colorado/Canyon. I don't agree with many of their assessments. From the jump, the quality of the Colorado was several notches below the Taco. Aside from the leather seats, every other part of the Colorado had that half-assed appearance Chevy is known for. The truck looks disjointed; the front end and bed don't seem like they were designed by the same team. The ZR2 trim looks much better than regular Colorados, but the bed still looks like Eeyore's tail. The wheels on the Colorado are pretty fresh, but still not better than the TRD wheels on the Taco. The Colorado also had better throttle response and felt quicker, but the driving felt loose and not very well-planted. Maybe it's that fancy suspension. Inside, the Colorado is much more narrow and cramped. I felt like I was going to fall off the seat, and I'm not a big guy. A big area of distinction is in the technology. While the Colorado boasts Apple Car play and the Android equivalent, the infotainment is the only place where the technology shines for the Colorado. The Taco comes with some pretty neat safety features that I've grown accustomed to in my wife's Highlander. The Colorado's answer to Blind Spot Monitor is that convex mirror we've seen on cars since the 70's. Maybe it was the trim I got, but I found the Tacoma to have a much better interior and due to my size, the normal gripes about seating position don't bother me. I fully concede that I was biased, as I went into this decision thinking Tacoma. I was hoping for the Colorado to wow me, given all the hype about them online, but I saw nothing that I didn't expect from Chevy. I always point out how Chevy is the only car manufacturer with self-esteem so low, that the whole point of their commercials is how their vehicles don't look like Chevy's...they look like a better car ("I thought it was a BMW" says the consumer). I would've liked to check out the baby Raptor sold in Thailand that's supposed to be coming to the US. I just didn't want to wait 2 or 3 years for it to get here. I think if you're contemplating either of these trucks, a simple test drive will tell you all you need to know.
