I recently bought a Tacoma. The choice was between the Taco and the Colorado. I test drove both and it wasn't really that close. I read tons of information about both of these trucks for the past 2 years and most (if not all) of the online reviews favor the Colorado/Canyon. I don't agree with many of their assessments. From the jump, the quality of the Colorado was several notches below the Taco. Aside from the leather seats, every other part of the Colorado had that half-assed appearance Chevy is known for. The truck looks disjointed; the front end and bed don't seem like they were designed by the same team. The ZR2 trim looks much better than regular Colorados, but the bed still looks like Eeyore's tail. The wheels on the Colorado are pretty fresh, but still not better than the TRD wheels on the Taco. The Colorado also had better throttle response and felt quicker, but the driving felt loose and not very well-planted. Maybe it's that fancy suspension. Inside, the Colorado is much more narrow and cramped. I felt like I was going to fall off the seat, and I'm not a big guy. A big area of distinction is in the technology. While the Colorado boasts Apple Car play and the Android equivalent, the infotainment is the only place where the technology shines for the Colorado. The Taco comes with some pretty neat safety features that I've grown accustomed to in my wife's Highlander. The Colorado's answer to Blind Spot Monitor is that convex mirror we've seen on cars since the 70's. Maybe it was the trim I got, but I found the Tacoma to have a much better interior and due to my size, the normal gripes about seating position don't bother me. I fully concede that I was biased, as I went into this decision thinking Tacoma. I was hoping for the Colorado to wow me, given all the hype about them online, but I saw nothing that I didn't expect from Chevy. I always point out how Chevy is the only car manufacturer with self-esteem so low, that the whole point of their commercials is how their vehicles don't look like Chevy's...they look like a better car ("I thought it was a BMW" says the consumer). I would've liked to check out the baby Raptor sold in Thailand that's supposed to be coming to the US. I just didn't want to wait 2 or 3 years for it to get here. I think if you're contemplating either of these trucks, a simple test drive will tell you all you need to know.
