It's pretty sad that we have to remind them to be careful.

Update: Shop owner has ordered 4 new TRD Pro wheels. He has accepted responsibility.

Glad this will be over soon.

    BS situation for everyone involved.

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

You get the 4x4, the lift, the knobby tires, the front bumper, the high clearance rear, matching spare, high lift jack, recovery boards, etc etc etc. But you better not scuff my wheels or I'm taking you to court!

Shit happens, let the shop know, they will make it right in one way or another.

OP, I know how those scratches occurred. Make sure you wash your wheels right before having new tires mounted, itll help prevent scuffs like that

Wheels were washed and spotless before they went in. All is good, the shop indetified the mistake and are taking responsiblity.

I had some FJ Trail Teams wheels put on years ago on my 2nd gen. My wheels looked a little worse than yours but I honestly never noticed them until i got home. The installer left the rusty jack handle up when he dropped my tailgate. It destroyed the tailgate, I could see it from like 30 feet away. They denied it, said it came in like that. I just hate taking my vehicles anywhere. Nobody cares. They finally paid for it after they reviewed the video and told me what happened, but that was a couple days later.

Glad to hear that the shop is looking after you. That is actually a surprising result in my book. I have had issues like that. You can go to a top tier tire shop and if the tech is having a bad day, you will get scratches or worse! Just how it is. Some of those scratches looked like they would buff out with say a Meguires 105 & 205 application.

    Man that is horrible.

I was fortunate in the outcome as they reviewed the video footage of the install and identified the error.

But again, I had pictures of the wheels that were taken just before the install.

Owner is a standup guy and was in just as much shock as I was to see the damage. In the end he was able make sense of this circus act.

I had my pro wheels installed at local Toyota dealer and they scratched both an OR take off rim and a new pro rim. It took some persistence, but the dealer replaced both rims.

They got it on video? Would love to see the tech man handling your wheels haha.

On a serious note... awesome end result!

Are they going to keep the damaged ones in return?

I am sure they will. They need to recoup some of that money for the new set. Someone on craigslist will buy it! In fact, some of the folks reading this now would buy it, for a discount of course!

Exact same thing happened to me when I put on the 17" 4Runner Pro wheels. Tire shop eventually replaced them luckily.

Wonder if they used the plastic guides for the install. The scratch on the middle of the rim is crazy. Idk how the hell that could happen

As I have done mounts before. Looks like they put the face down on the piece of cardboard and installed the tire from the back of the rim using their knee to push it on the rim. The rim itself moves on the floor making the edges getting scratched. I have seen this once or twice. Sounds like the tire machine was in use and the tire guy just did it old school. That sucks. Sorry. At least it’s getting fixed. Hopefully you can keep the old wheels and sell them to your buddies for an awesome price. Buddy!!!

    LS1 swap with nitros.
This. Similar issue happened to me on my S2000 rims. Had Honda put on new tires and an alignment... rims were PERFECT before, and all four wound up with similar scratches. Dealer GM was not budging more than willing to have some van come and refinish them.

I filed a lawsuit in small claims court... cost of 4 new wheels from Honda, tire mounting fees, and court costs. Guess who got it all taken care of? Dealer owner was pissed the GM didn’t fix it before I filed this as he was served by the sheriff with papers.

My factory wheels looked just like that until I polished them. They came out perfect. The paint on them seems to be very soft imo. If I were to put them on again, I would do a couple coats of Modesta BC-06 for the scratch resistance.
