Well my dealer told me that he's going to be getting standards* like 2 months later than he's going to be getting autos. Anyone else hear this? The only thing I can think of is that the factory is going to make a run of autos, then a run of sticks?

That said, Ima wait for a stick. My first vehicle was a 1982 Toyota sr5 truck with a stick. I drove that thing like a bat out of hell. The stick really allowed me to utilize its power better than I could have with an auto. I drove the thing like a rallye truck. So, given my nostalgic ties, I think I'm going to return to my youth and get the manual tranny. I've read too many horror stories about the auto!

    How bout you guys?

This 3rd generation fights itself honestly. You have EPA standards which force toyota to stay at really low RPMs as much as possible to maintain gas mileage yet the 3rd gen has an engine that produces max torque between 3 and 3.5k RPM and max HP at redline.

The 3rd gen has some serious quirks but I guarantee you having the manual transmission (unless you're one of the ones with the not being able to get in/out of gear issue) is one of the greatest things about the truck. Never a complaint of lack of power or torque.

Anybody who says the 3rd gen is gutless needs to go on a test drive and downshift straight into that 3.2k RPM range.

    Get the M/T.

Right on man, that's kind of what I was thinking. There's just something about a manual and being able to stay exactly in what torque curve or power band you want to be in.

What is it you lose with the standard? Only the push button start?

No push button start (no big deal) and no crawl control (whatever, 1st gear 4 lo is perfect crawl control) and no hill start assist (which apparently just yells at you and then stalls the automatic trucks)

And the silly crawl control that destroys your truck while using it lol.

Right on, no big loss. Do you still have the ability to touch the handle to unlock the truck? I don't even understand such wizardry, I just remember reading about it somewhere on here.

No, it's an "old fashioned" lock/unlock/panic buttoned key.

I can drive my auto in a similiar fashion in "S" mode. That's what it's there for. Plenty of go in the upper RPM band.
