Hello all, I’m in the market for a 2022 Pro but so far every dealer I’ve inquired with almost seems like they’re close to impossible to acquire at this point in time and if so, mentions a markup.

What is the realistic expectation if I’d just like to put myself on the wait list in terms of ETA and pricing?

Purchasing at MSRP probably won’t happen for a couple of years or if you find an “honest” dealership.

Putting yourself on a list can be helpful but I recommend calling around to see what’s in stock.

Part manufacturing is starting to ramp up but still can’t keep up with demand.

Freeman up in Santa Rosa seems like the most popular here. Even they are asking for a markup on top of the difficulty in acquiring.

Longo in socal will do MSRP but there's probably going to be a waiting list well into next year if not longer.

Toyota Sunnyvale does msrp. But it’s a long wait. You can put a 500 refundable deposit down.

Just a couple months ago? I’ve checked now and they have the markup unfortunately.

I’ve also checked Sunnyvale. They’ve quoted me 6-8 months for just the OR’s. Didn’t ask about the Pros however.

When I bought my Tacoma, the dealer had a black TRD Pro in stock. They had a $4k mark up on it. This was back in January of 2019, well before COVID, shortages, etc. This was in San Francisco. So if dealers had markups on the Pro before any shortage, it's a good bet there will be a mark up on the Pro's today. Your best bet is to work with a dealer to order one and leave a deposit based on an MSRP price.

Even at MSRP which is just shy of $50,000 for a Pro Tacoma. I can't justify the price when you can get much more truck for the money, and that's before the accessories and mark up are added to the price.

I know the other options out there are not as appealing as a Tacoma, or TRD Pro.

Longo Toyota sells at msrp....but the wait is like a year or so. 500 deposit and you can't be too picky.

Good luck... I've been thinking about one too, but got MSRP? You're gonna have to do some digging and some waiting.

Redwood City Toyota or whatever they call themselves has a big banner on the building saying they wont sell over MSRP. No idea what the wait is but worth reaching out.

I think you need to think hard if that is really what you want or not.

When I became serious about buying a Tacoma, I too wanted a Pro. At MSRP, you just get more for your money than the top of the line non-Pro models. I went into Sunnyvale Toyota mid July 2021 and put my name on the list. I was number 82 for a Tacoma. The only preference they asked for was color, transmission and trim level. I checked back a few times as allocations are released roughly every 2-3 weeks. Never heard back, and ended up getting a truck elsewhere. Then in March 2022, I got a call saying they got one allocated (Pro and color I wanted) and wondering if I still wanted it. Once allocated, it would have been another 2-3 months for them to actually get it.

One thing is that I was never asked nor felt I had control over any options that would have been on the truck. Many dealers like Piercy, Dublin, etc would get Pro's with thousands of dollars worth of dealer options installed. I really didn't want anything. A month after they called, I checked their website and that PRO did not have any options on it. So, I probably would have got what I wanted if I had waited the nearly 1 year.

I ended up getting an OR from Hayward Toyota at MSRP and I love it. No regrets. Hayward does mark up PRO's though.

Good advice, I’m now looking at OR’s however wait times are 6-8 months locally and ~2 months if traveling ~2 hours (I’m in the South Bay). How long was the wait for Hayward? I’ve yet to try them.

It was like a 6 week wait for me. I got pretty lucky as Toyota suspended production like a week after mine was built and it arrived before the projected date that the dealer had in their system. Hayward has all their allocations on their website, but you really need to call for accurate availability if there is one you like. I remember mine switched from "Pending Sale" to "Coming Soon" and I texted my sales person. He said you can't rely on that status.

    Good Luck.
