They already have in several models in the Lexus line. The L500 has a TT 3.5 that makes something like 416 HP/442TQ......I think that is what will be in the next LC and maybe Tundra. Would love to see maybe a de-tuned version 350HP/400TQ range in the Tacoma (they'd likely never put the same numbers in a Taco that they do a Tundra or LC).

The Hilux has been available with a turbo for a long time. Sport owners really want a turbo or they wouldn't have bought a truck with a fake hood scoop to cool their imaginary inter cooler.

I came here expecting the topic to be about the coming Nissan Frontier not eco burst blue oval junk.

That is one Fugly truck. The back seats are worthless for cargo. The Raptor version looks great but it is still no functional on the interior.

The New Frontier looks like an updated Taco which it will be obsolete again in two years when the new Taco comes out. Nissan should have released that new Frontier 5 years ago it would have smashed their sales records.

So true... I was looking at all the mid size trucks as a replacement for my 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD that was getting too old and to many miles for a chrysler product as an only vehicle last summer. I never even gave the frontier much consideration. who wants to spend that kind of money on a new truck thats a design that came out around the same time as your current old one?

The new Frontier is just catching up. Toyota, Ford, and GM will all have a new model soon and they are going to be behind yet again.

When I bought my truck I was torn between a Tacoma and a Frontier. My last vehicle was a Pathfinder and that thing is still going strong at 210,000 miles. That being said, the thing that turned me off from Frontier was that they have been producing the same design for over a decade with little to no improvements. That, and my ex drove an Xterra and damn that thing was uncomfortable to ride in.

Looking back, I have zero regrets. But I digress, that Ranger is one ugly truck and ain't no way I would ever buy one.

Toyota is about to announce a Turbo Tundra any moment now. Does that mean the Turbo engines will finally become ok?

If they finally wake up and put a manual transmission in it, sure.

Hard to make a determination on a truck and engine no one has seen yet. In the Lexus LS, the TT 3.5 V6 is 416HP/442TQ compared to the 5.7 V8 381HP/401TQ. So, theoretically the performance should be better, assuming the rating remains the same. However, for the Tundra, I might expect them to tune the engine for more, low-end torque as they will likely want to at least match the Ford 3.5 EB in that category as the '21 F-150 claims 400HP/500TQ.

Said no race car driver or automotive journalist ever. Never understood the appeal of nothing, nothing, FULL POWAAA!!!! Even with the better setups of modern turbo motors, N/A still feels much better than turbo. Of course, if you compare a lackluster, powerless N/A motor to a powerful turbo motor, it will seem like turbo is best. However, with motors that are apples to apples the N/A will always run longer and have better response/be more fun to drive. Heat soak will always be the biggest enemy of boosted motors. Running long track sessions during Florida summers, it's always the turbo and supercharged guys who run into limp mode and puke coolant.

F80 BMW M3, BMW X5M, MKIV Supra, MKIII Supra w/ 1.5JZ single turbo swap, the latest Impreza WRX STI, latest Impreza WRX, old Bug Eye Impreza WRX, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII, Infinity Q50, Mercedes Benz S Class Maybach, Rolls Royce Wraith, just to name a few. I reviewed a few of them on my youtube channel, others are just on my instagram. They were all fun in their own way. Guess what? Not one feels as good as an equally powerful N/A motor. Especially not around the road course. There's a reason Porsche's GT cars are N/A despite how awesome the Turbo 911 is - and I bet the 911 Turbo feels great around track already. Don't get me wrong, turbos are definitely fun and have their charm, they just aren't the end all be all some people think they are. Especially to those of us who don't care about drag racing and spend time on race tracks with corners.

    Good answer! :D

I will admit that of all of the cars I've managed to get behind the wheel of, my buddy's N/A LS2 Sonoma has been the best acceleration.

I'm not talking about tracking a car; was referring to in a truck. The effortless tq of a modern turbo engine is great for normal driving and towing. Go drive a 3.5 or 2.7 ecoboost and then drive a 5.0. Tell me which one you want in a truck.

I have driven a 3.5 Ecoboost, in a Taurus SHO (which may as well be a truck since it weighs 4,000+ lbs.). It's a fun motor, but a V8 would be better in a truck all day, just not the 5.0 Coyote motor (mainly because it just sucks in general). The 5.0 isn't really a great example since it makes its torque higher up the RPM band. Now, an LS/LT based truck motor will wipe the floor with the 2.7 and outlast the 3.5 Ecoboost when towing and hauling up hills and driving for hours. PS, no one in their right mind has ever thought a 2.7 Ecoboost could compare to a V8 in a truck, even a 5.0 lol.
