I just purchased a 2012 Tacoma SR5 with 16" Rims. I was hoping to put on TRD rims and keeping the tires I have on them. Can I put TRD rims on an SR5? If so does it matter which year TRD rims I use? Thanks!

Color matched door handles, Weathertech floor liners, bed mat, Durafit seat covers, tailgate clamp, 2016 TRD Sport 17" wheels with Yokohama Geolander AT tires , Toyota exhaust tip, Toyota/Yakima bike rail mount, Toyota wheel locks, Toyota hitch cover, Redline hood struts, unifilter on air pump.
TRD wheels will fit just fine. However, TRD Sport wheels will require new tires as they are 17”

I am continuously amazed when people don't know the difference between wheels and rims, and wheel covers and hubcaps.

These are "Rims". They are used on mobile homes and some tractor trailers. lol

The rim is the outer edge or lip of the wheel

Your wheel allows mounting of the tire

You have wheels that have rims, that hold your tires

I mean definitions change over time. "Rims" today does not mean what it meant 20 years ago, when you were buying your first mobile home.

Hey, I'm new here but to answer you question yes you can. I just recently bought a 2012 Tacoma SR5 with 16" rims with bald, factory size tires, and bought 2017 4Runner wheels/tires off a friend with tire size 265/70/R17 (this is the max size you can fit under a tacoma w/o a lift for 17" rims)(265/75/R16 is the max size for a 16" rim w/o a lift w/stock suspension). Didn't have to get spacers, and have absolutely zero rub from lock to lock, you do have to take off any front mud flaps you have on the truck however.

In that regard, I had STEEL wheels, and because of the angle or frequency that the TPMS sensors use in the steel wheels (someone correct me if I'm wrong), I had to buy new TPMS sensors for my new 4runner wheels(ran me $188.00 through Wurth for the 4 new sensors and programming but I work at a dealer so I got cost and did the programming myself). The TPMS sensors in the 3rd gen tacomas/5th gen 4runners (correct me if I'm wrong) wheels don't get picked up from 2nd gen tacomas, so keep that in mind when looking for new wheels.

If you currently have ALLOY wheels on your truck, then the TPMS sensors will fit any other TRD wheel and all you have to do is swap TPMS sensors and don't need to worry about programming/relearning the sensors.

Hope this helped! I'll try to post some pictures of my truck when I find some time, just bought it a few months ago and found this cool forum, it has definitely helped me!

This thread would have better "traction" on a Friday... or maybe a Sunday.

    To the OP...5-lug? 6-lug? ..

You can use steel wheel TPMS in aluminum wheels by turning them 180 degrees. They work fine, but you should alert your tire tech if the tire needs to be dismounted. Turning the sensor puts it closer to the edge, so they have to be careful with the tire removal bar

I actually want to use 2015 Tacoma 16" Rims vs the 2012 Rims. 2012 Standard 16" [IMG] vs 2015 16" Trd [IMG]
    Can I use the 2015 16"Trd ones on my 2012 SR5?

Yes, but I believe you will need different lug nuts and tpm sensors for aluminum wheels.

Interjecting this question in here instead of making a new thread.... Getting winter set of tires and wheels and debating to spend the extra for TPMS for the winter set.... if they are programmed/synced and working.... will I need to reprogram the summer tire and wheels tpms again since they're all different? PIA or easy to swap and reset the programing each season?

or f - it and just deal with the light being on all winter... not opposed to this at all but figured I'd ask the masses with more experience..

Have the new sensors cloned to match your OE sensors (if they are programmable, not all are). Or just deal with the light.

Yes, he will need the shank type nut. There are 2 different length. That's just for aesthetics....they have the same thread engagement.

Notice they are tapered at the bottom. That's to accommodate the steel spare wheel.
