Have some scratches on the skid plate I'd like to paint over. All I can find is TRD grey/aluminum which is sort of vague and all the greys and aluminum colors I've seen at various auto and hardware stores are not a close match.
Anyone know the color or something close in a rattle can?

Add paint that will scraped away anyway? Scratches on skid plate are just another form of "pinstripes" like tree-branch scratches.

The TRD skid plate is powdercoated from the factory, so finding an exact paint match won't be easy. I'd just grab whatever color you like, remove the skid and letters from it and repaint it off the vehicle (or have it powder coated again). Any close match will be fine if you like that color and paint the whole skid. Powdercoating would be my choice though, as paint won't hold up nearly as well.

Yeah I know, but I'm not really the type of guy that tries to put battle scars on my stuff that way I can represent "street cred" or trail cred in this case.
I've literally seen and ridden with guys that intentionally do this on purpose lol.
I am the type that buffs out my pinstripes FWIW:thumbsup:
I like my shit to look nice :notsure:

Looking for a cheap $10 can of paint, I'm not that anal to have it powder coated again.
It's going to get scratched some more so I'm just looking for a quick fix.
My sliders are Line-x'd and I just rattle can some black where I have scrapes underneath and on the sides that way they don't rust. ( I know the skid is aluminum)
Been considering bed lining the whole skid that way touch ups are easy.
I've seen some guys on here do that and it looks pretty darn good:thumbsup:

So do I. But you literally have to get on your hands and knees to see the damn thing, so I personally let mine look like it looks. But you do you brother.

Should have known I'd get a little roasted for asking this:bananadead:
Especially from the wheeling crowd that put scratches on their skids:D
Anybody have an actual answer? Besides the obligatory TW Captain ones?
Yes I know I can paint it my color of choice, yes I know you can't notice the scratches too well without getting under the truck, yes I know it'll probably get scraped off again.
I sent a couple emails out to 2 manufacturer's, one of which I bought LCA skids from that match the skid plate (which have some scratches as well and are starting to rust, which are very visible when walking to the truck).
They have gotten back with me and said they will look into this but didn't have any current answers. One's response actually started with "good question" FWIW
I'll post what they come back with:thumbsup:

I always thought it was anodized. Is it powder coated?

Not positive to be honest. I guess I assumed it was powder coated. You may be correct though as it it really hasn't chipped or flaked around the scratches :notsure:

It's absolutely powder coated. I sanded it off...

I found the Behr Lunar Surface spray paint to be a close match. Not exactly tge same, but good enough for a skid plate.

I just painted mine black and got the red vinyl letters on it to contrast.

You have any pictures of it sprayed on anything? I'd be curious to see how close of a match this is.

To OP, I think you asked a great and fair question. Nothing wrong with wanting to keep your stuff looking good, while also still using it. I'd like to know the closest TRD skid color match as well, not because I have a TRD skid, but because I have steel skids, yet love the look of the TRD skids way more. I'd be willing to paint them something other than black purely for aesthetic purposes.

Not the best photos... @msgs350 do you have any photos that compare the colors better?

i don’t have any side by side pics for comparison, only these…

If it was me, I’d prolly just do a paint pen/brush to cover scratches.

thinking about this a little more, this color might not be a good idea as a “touch-up” to the TRD powder coat shade.

comes off way too easy to be powdercoated. guessing it is Cerakoated, which is nothing more than glorified spray paint. your results may vary. Good luck in the color search. Ski

that looks really good! I may just have to swap from black to this color next time I pull the skids for a respray.

I purchased mine powdered coated in black. It looks great on Cement and the red TRD letters.

You could try reaching out to CBI also as they sell a mid-skid plate matched to the Pro front skid. Someone has to know how they coat it.

For me, that Behr paint matches well enough to recoat, then use for touch ups.
