In need of help. With the crazy market, I am for some reason in the market for a truck.
    I am stuck between two:
    TRD sport 2020 2wd v6 5ft bed with about 35k miles.
TRD Sport 2021 2wd v6 5ft bed with about 5k miles for about 7k more in price.

I have never owned a truck, and I can't wait to join the tacoma family. Price at this point is through the roof so either way I know I am paying quite a bit - especially in CA. Is it worth the extra money for less miles and a younger tacoma or should I save my money and go with the 2020?

Please give me your ideas on both and if I would be getting the same truck with the 2020. I have always heard Tacomas are reliable and built to last, so the 35K miles doesn't worry me. I figured that's similar to 15K miles for most vehicles.

Also both trucks have tech packages, cloth seats. So no advantage either way as for as one having a sunroof or anything.

Also any info on both trucks would be great - I am trying to learn as much about the two before I make a decision.

    Thanks!!!

What’s the price compared to a new truck?

just a idea. Toyota in Sacramento off auburn blvd is selling multiple trucks with $3500 over msrp. and i heard if you talk to them, they can go down on the price.

but between those 2, i would go with the cheaper one. when it comes time to sell it, there wont be a 7k price difference.

You didn’t say what the asking price is for the trucks you’re looking at but a brand new 2022 2wd Sport is $37k msrp. I would start looking further away and take a one way flight if needed to avoid a $7k mark up.

I'm in CA too was looking for a new SR or SR5 since September and got tired of getting no where with the dealers. The few times they found something they wanted 6K + over MSRP. I finally went to Carvana and found exactly what I was looking for and had it in a few days.
If you are looking for used you might want to give them a try

Replace tweeters for Subaru plug n play kickers. Also replace front and back speakers with kickers. Added a Kenwood KSC-PSW8 250W Max (150W RMS) Single 8" Under Seat Powered Subwoofer Enclosure W/Remote Control. I went with Kenwood because it’s the same as JVC but cheaper.K&N reusable filters for engine & cabin
here’s a video highlighting key differences. Like you you said you won’t find any. I purchased a 2021used 4x4 SR5 trail edition for $40 grand dealer wanted originally 45grand but I talked them down. They have like a waiting list for people to get there new Tacos. Use CarMax listings as leverage so you can negotiate better pricing. Only if your buying from a dealer because CarMax does not haggle. Used cars are up there in pricing with new cars now in days.

So the 2020 I found on carmax they want 39k, and at this point its the cheapest I have seen for what I want. Mainly tech package. The 2021 has it also but "internet price" is 45900 but at 5k miles.
I know its high, but I'm tired of waiting and looking.

Thanks all for the reply so far! I appreciate it.

Also another kicker - Theres a promotion for a 1.89 interest rate. I would love to lock that in before things get even more expensive.

Unless you absolutely need a truck right now I would find a dealer willing to sell at MSRP and wait for the truck. You will pay the same or less for a brand new truck.

    Welcome to Tacoma World :hattip:

This is the perhaps worst time in history to buy anything with wheels and at the pinnacle of prices is a used Tacoma.

For the insane money that used trucks are selling for you are better off with a one way plane ticket to anywhere you can purchase a new one at MSRP.

Good luck and let us know what you do.

If you don’t need a truck right now, look out of state. Prices are more reasonable as you head north. Try Oregon, Utah, Idaho, Nevada.

Don’t pay CA prices if possible. They have gone off the deep end.

But also I’ve heard Longo Toyota (SoCal) sells at MSRP. Finding a truck can be hard though.

They are both a rip off. I paid $39k for a brand new 2021 TRD Sport 4x4 with every option package.

expand your search to neighboring states in most cases the transferring of the vehicle to CA would not be that expensive. Show all that to dealer and demand your pricing. Once there they won’t let u leave

so just mention --- I am highly aware that prices are high. I do not want to take a one way flight or anything like that. I have an option to look at these two trucks, and was hoping for help between the two as far as the performance or if they are basically the same. I do appreciate all these post, but anything more specific to the trucks would be great.
