FYI it will not void his warranty, what he signed was a generic tire chain disclosure which pretty much EVERYONE in CA now signs when buying a new vehicle regardless of what vehicle it is. Its just a way for dealerships to cover their ass from liability but GMC Sierras are absolutely compatible with tire chains (even though its generally recommended to use inferior but safer "cables")

This is what he signed, its not specific to his vehicle again its generic:

I'd personally take whatever vehicle you're more comfortable with, if he has snow experience and good tires then I'd take the Sierra.

I've been going to mammoth for 20 years never once have they actually stopped me for not having chains, I've never heard of anyone being turned away unless they were 2wd.

Know plenty of locals that've lived there for years and don't even own a pair of chains. But do so at your own risk :)

Edit: if you're really worried about being turned away just carry your chains with you in the sierra even if they don't fit. Again never seen them actually force a 4x4 to chain up, at that point they just straight up shut down the 203.

I would take my Taco and grab some chains before you go. Remember, RWD is better than FWD. I agree with Marshall. Chains on the taco will tear anything underneath it.

“It might accommodate some other traction device” if you guys take the GMC, I would try cables for the tire. They are not as effective as chains. But they will help. It doesn’t state you cannot use snow cables.

Take the 4wd. 2wd pickups in snow SUCK ! Front wheel drive car is a better choice than a 2wd pickup ! The chains will help but are not fun to put on in snow or slush , by the time you decide to put them on , they should have been on already and you are probably fishtailing on an uphill grade holding up traffic looking for a place to put them on lol.

hahaha this is true.... my buddy and I once drove from Colorado Springs to telluride in his BRZ in a snowstorm. We had to stop for the night somewhere in the middle of BFE it got so bad. Many many pucker moments that trip.
