Bump. Down to the brake master and booster. Someone has got to need this, the cost for new is absolutely crazy, and the core charge is more than I am asking!!

@racebug68 how do you like the tundra master and booster? How's the peddle feel now? Stock calipers?

I have the 5th gen 4runner calipers and rotors. Stopping power is amazing with this setup, I am very happy with it. Bite is good enough I can hear the tires start to howl with lots of modulation left. And that is with heavy 35" tires, ~98lbs each. I still probably should re-bleed the brakes to make the pedal a bit more firm, but not needed, there is plenty of modulation.

I think the booster/master upgrade is a seriously good thing. I never felt proud of the braking performance before, even with stock tires and when I went to 33". But even with stock calipers, I would think this upgrade would make them work way better. with the 4runner setup, it is awesome.

    Good luck.

Nice set up. Not sure which calipers the 5th gen uses, but it sounds like the 13WL set up... so I've been running gx470 calipers and rotors (13WL calipers and 338mm x 28mm rotors) for about 3 years. It was definitely a improvement, but even with completely new drums in the back, stainless brake lines and countless bleeding/fushing, it's still squishy in my pedal... I'm about to pull the trigger on a Sequoia Master retrofit from S.O.S but they didn't require the booster.

it is all about getting a dual diaphragm booster. it makes the brake pressure way more fore the same pedal pressure. which is needed when you have a larger bore master, like the tundra/sequioa is. Don't get a larger master, with an adapter to make it fit the taco booster, that is just crazy, and might make your pedal more firm, but what you really want is more bite at the brakes, not more pedal pressure.

The 5th gen 4 runner setup is from a 2016 or something like that. It is a 14WA if I recall. It has the larger rotor, but also wider, and the pistons are larger diameter in the caliper. Larger pistons in caliper = more force applied at the pad. but they require more fluid volume, for that a larger master is needed. The full beauty though is the booster, which bolts in and makes the power brakes MUCH more powerful.

I honestly would never do a master without upgrading the booster. In fact, I think the upgrade is the booster, but you have to use a different master for it to bolt up...

There are threads on the bigger brake setup with the booster upgrade. Find that one on the booster. I replied there and showed the exact parts you need in order for it to be a completely bolt in affair, other than fab the brake lines in a 180 bend since they come out the other side of the master cylinder... but if you have the right parts it is not difficult.

I am a firm believer that bigger brakes are not really needed unless you are really heavy or really towing a lot with really big tires. I think that the booster upgrade on stock brakes would make them work way better. If you do the booster with bigger brakes and more aggressive pads, that is even more stopping power.

I can stop fast enough now with a fully loaded expo rig, and I'm telling you it is heavier than 95% of the trucks out there, that it can scare the passengers and dislodge stuff that should be staying put.

Nice, so I was wrong. I have the 13WH calipers. What did you do for the pedal actuator rod?

Read the other thread I pasted, it is all there with pictures. Actuator Rod lengthening can be fabbed or I found an extension that made it a bolt up. and this conversation should be picked up there or moved to a private message.
