I am pretty sure it is Double Cab Long Box.

The 6-speed manual is a bigger draw to the truck to me than the performance of the 3.5.

So when is the last time the OP has been seen around these parts?

I think we all can agree that the sport and off-road have a different ride. Sport is set up to handle the corners better while the OR handles the bumps better. I think it's more than just the shocks and scoop on the sport. But everyone seems to feel it's just the scewp you get that makes it a sport. That being said, I agree it seems you get more for your money with the OR. I also see lots of folks take off the shocks and tires immediately on the OR and replace. With all these electronic extras also comes possible expensive electronic repairs.

Because of TW, I sometimes feel I made an uniformed purchase, but if I had been here before ordering my truck, I wouldn't be in a 3rd gen if even a Taco. But then I get in my 6 speed manual MGM sport and smile while I crank around, not worried about taking a corner faster than recommended. But I am not climbing rocks with my 30 plus grand daily driver.

16's are cheaper than 17's too, which is another OR draw for me.

In my case, the double cab combined with a 6'2" bed was a bigger draw than an MT. If that had been an option I certainly might have gone with it, but it wasn't so I went with the longer bed. I don't mind the AT at all, it shifts and hunts sometimes, but it doesn't bother me. When I goose it, it goes.

I think it's funny people are underestimating the power of the hood scoop...
I don't see any threads for swapping rear lockers, just sayin...

I had a 16 Sport & it does bounce around too much. The off road rides soooo much better! The only thing I like better on the sport was the hood. I wish the hood could be an option you could order. You can't buy the hood painted. Only in primer.

Might be because the rear ends are not a direct swap. :anonymous:

Fair enough however I think you get my point. The OR might have more usable options however there's a reason why Toyota hasn't discontinued/lowered the price of the Sport. And this is coming from a guy that's owned 2 off roads.

I'm not an offroader, but it seems to me that an aftermarket locker on a sport or sr5 would be more useful than the one in the trd off-road. With the off-road, you have to be in 4lo to use it. With an aftermarket, you don't even have to be in 4wd at all.

My other truck has a 7' bed and I have a 7' pickup box trailer so while it would be nice getting it all in one package isn't really required for me.

I wonder if there is a way to get around the nanny programming. Other OEM's are the same way with it usually being speed based, not caring what the t-case is set to. The thing with the Sport is it costs the same as an OR though. If you are rolling your own an SR5 would make a lot more sense.

I was kind of thinking the same thing about the locker only allowed in 4low. But, after more thinking on it, I can't come to very many reasons I would ever use a locker at higher speeds. Now, if there was a way to put the truck in 2low and use the locker, I could justify that being useful I guess?

Thanks for all the input! As it turned out, I got an offer I couldn't pass up on a 2013 TRD SPORT 4X4. I want to do some customizing and I don't mind making a few extra scratches on this one.

Solid choice.. I love the 4.0 and that tranny. They are noticeably more responsive than my 3.5.

Any additions you plan on adding in the near future?

I just took my 2017 TRD Sport to Uwharrie. The locker would have been nice, but I didn’t need it on the trails I ran. The Rocky Mountain Loop hill going up was a little challenging though. I never needed any lockers on my 2000 SR5.It was a manual and was in the beach all the time and snow was a breeze.
The hood scoop was a little tough on the trails, had my seat pulled up to help see and had to try and find my line earlier than I am accustomed to. It is stock, but upgraded to a 265/70/17 tire. With the automatic, I believe I would look at the Off-Road over the Sport when I do it again.I just used my past experience of not needing the lockers on my decision, but technology is different.

Absolutely! Changing head lamps, tail lights, bushwackeer style fender flares. Cold air intake (probably Volant closed box), and exhaust (flowmaster, or magna flow, not sure yet)
