I just read all 12 pages of this thread. Now I want to poke out my eyes or someone else's , I cant decide ;). I now know I am a moron for buying a trd sport DCLB prerunner, even though it suits my needs to a T. Amazingly enough the one thing I would remove in a second is the traction control. My right foot is my traction control. I do not ever want the truck to " assist " my driving. If I needed a 4wd I would have no A-TRAC, but a Trutrac and a Detroit locker.

    Sorry for the rant.:p

No rant, a good personal opinion... good for you!

Trutrac or a Detroit locker would cost $$$ and A-TRAC comes standard on the OR 4WD Taco. I come from the old school (Jeep'n and 4 wheelin' since the 60's)... but I am open to new technology... specially when it already comes with the truck. Try it before you knock it, I say!

The reason people add lockers or limited slip systems is to IMPROVE the drivability of their vehicle... tires in the air or on ice that spin don't move you, afterall.

Toyota has added limited slip... and for hard core off roading, A-TRAC simulates the action of front and rear lockers but doesn't interfere with steering on the trail... and the rear locker is still there, as well!

Have you tried the hood scoop? It does exactly what it's supposed to do...it looks cool. lol. Try it before you knock it, I say! :D

Oh yeah, I'm in the market for the new truck too and have decided that for my occasional off roading, even though the OR is awesome, I need the long bed. I have an R6 and want it to fit in the back and close the tail gate. I don't want to wish I had more room in my bed after I spend over 30k on a truck, but thats my needs. It would be nice to get a Sport color keyed options with the off road drive train, but it's not gonna happen so I would rather get the Sport looks and ability that exceeds other market options. Get a 3" lift, bigger tires, and if I need a locker I can get it later for close to what I would have paid for the OR but now I have a long bed too.

After hearing David K, I kinda want to get two scoops...maybe the 2012 will have that upgrade...haha DCLB2S. Honestly ATRAC would be nice, but it shouldn't be the end of the world without it.

I got a little lucky. I wanted a base model and was prepared to pay only for that. They did not have the base model in the configuration that I wanted (V6, MT, 4wd), so they offered the TRD Off Road for the same price. To top it off, they were willing to tint the windows on the truck and on my previous daily driver that I'm attempting to sell. Invoice shows a $34K truck that I got for $26K. I'm a happy boy.

Dump the cash you saved into a good suspension, some tires, and some armor and you'll have a very capable Taco...I can confirm that from experience ;)

The nice thing about the 09+ ORs is they don't really *need* any additional traction aids...front locker, lower gears, crawl box would all be welcome and nice, but you can get by without 'em.

Although I really really really want a fuckin' crawl box now :\
