I use my SR5 much the way you've described. If I had it to do all over again, I'd go with a sport.

Dude if your gonna change everything...get the SR5. You can get TRD stickers from Sock. Save the money especially if your gonna get a lift, bumpers, wheels/tires, headlamps etc... Most of the mods on the Off Road can be done by logging on here. Be safe. I got the Off Road but i should have gotten the SR5. Even if it is not your money. You may need the money for bambinos!!

Ya here is the consolidated advice thread.

For your needs you may want a long bed. You can get this in the TRD Sport, or the SR5.

The Sport is almost a 100% cosmetic upgrade over the SR5 (other than seats pretty much). If you want to pay for those looks, get them.

If you don't mind either an access cab (which comes with long box), or a short box (and trailer), get the OR. It is almost entirely a functional upgrade.

There is no problem with people spending the extra cash on their truck for looks, just be sure that is what you want.

So if you NEED double cab, long box, get the SR5, or Sport to have a nicer looking truck. If you want to have the most truck for your money, and have a lot of spare time, get the SR5 and use the saved money to upgrade it.

If you want a good offroad vehicle out of the box and don't feel like doing a pile of mods to it, get the OR.

I trimmed a tree this past fathers day and used my Dads Tacoma to get the branches to the dump. We only took down about half the branches of this 45 ft tree and it took us two loads to get everything off the premises. I want an Off Road Dbl Cab, but I can't imagine the nightmare it would be loading a short bed ten times to get rid of a tree, i have a trailer but sometimes loading the truck bed is spontaneous and the trailer might be elsewhere not to mention trimming this tree was spontaneous.

I have heard mixed reviews on the TRD seats.

Do you care if you have a hood scoop or not is the only question IMO. There just isn't enough creature comforts in the TRD.

I am considering Tundra. Spacious interior, large bed and no non-functional scoop that reminds me of rice burners.

on the flipside, I already wish my DC SB was shorter on the trails. I'm always pulling 3 point turns when I follow those FJCs.
If I was making a habit of hauling wood, I'd get a fullsize truck with an 8' bed and load that mother down.

Those people couldn't handle the comfort ;)

Do you even know what your talking about? When you say TRD seats, do you mean TRD Off-Road seats or TRD Sport Seats? They are very different! TRD Sport? TRD Off-Road? 2 different Tacomas. My TRD Sport has the Long Bed.

The Offroad and Sport have the same exact seats. They are the 'sport' seats.
The SR5 package and below have standard seats.

EDIT: regular cab has a 60/40 split bench
