I was in the same boat. Ended up going auto OR at the end of the day. I justified a lot of similar concerns like you from low-key preferences such as the moonroof to ease of my drive/commute, and then bigger things like debating the transmission quality. In the end i'm super happy with the OR still. There's lots of good info in this thread to go for manual, but I'm still happy with going auto.

Thanks for the input. My low key preference are the safety features like the blind spot monitoring and the rear sensors that is only available I the trd sport here in Canada. Do you think it's worth the trade off?

That was also my concern. I really wanted blind spots (I'm downtown Toronto and everyone drives like a clown) - however I haven't felt like I'm missing them. Plus is just keeps you on your toes to always shoulder check and be a better driver without the tech. I wanted all the tech, my only downside. But I'm quickly over it, I've owned the truck for only about a month and a half and don't feel regret.

Hahaha. If there was an auto option for the sport, I would, no question asked, get the sport. This thread wouldn't exist. However, ease of commuting is a big part of my decision making which is why I'm having a difficult time deciding.

Dude I'm from Mission(Fraser Valley) The Auto sucks on the hills here, it sucks on the coquihalla. Ovtune made a huge difference but it's still not 100%. The offroad is effing awesome though i would buy it again if I ever have the money. Fyi the truck is as Badass as you make it look. And the offroad is worth not having the painted fenders, maine are scratched to hell from the trails around here. Still, I never had anyone comment more on how much they liked my vehicle than when my Tacoma was done out. Almost one random person per week was telling me how good my truck looked.

    But,
The crawl control is utterly useless here. There's no snow setting, and it's horrid to offroad with. The sport would be comparable for 90% of the stuff around here and if you want to get a locker you always could.

Also if you're worried about the auto transmission just regear it. the guys doing 4.88s have alot of positive things to say about the transmission after the switch.

Nice to hear. From Richmond but work at port kells(surrey/langley) so it's a decent commute. Work takes me to merritt sometimes so I will be on the coquihalla. Planning to get the taco at west coast toyota(maple ridge). Does the ovtune really make a difference? Isn't it supposed to be "fixed" by TSB or something?

They do have a TSB for it. Both my roommates have auto 3rd gen tacomas. They said it helped, but I think the ov tune is a bigger change. Personally I like keeping things factory, but a ton of guys on here love the ov tune.

I still think you should get the manual sport, the sport is very capable offroad. And you'll love manual, I was just driving mine tonight on the freeway and thought about how fun driving stick is.

If you get long bed you can get auto .

And you can get the off road manual too.

I miss driving manual though and once the truck is paid off I'll be getting a manual Corolla for daily.

For me this isn't manual vs auto though it's just the offroad is more bang for the buck .

I haven't tried ov tune. But the update really made a nice difference.

Truck is a lot more responsive now.

I want the wheelbase, need the DC, and have no issue with SB.

Now, when I snare the 1st Gen, it will be ACLB...and shorter. HUZAAA

    If I didn’t get the off-road I’d get a 4x4 sr5.

The added cargo space would be nice but I agree I much prefer the shorter wheel base and wanted a double cab as well.
