    Hey guys,

I'm a new member here currently waiting on my '16 DCSB TRD Sport to arrive at the dealer. I'm trading in my 2010 Mustang (Black w/Pony Pkg.) and yes it's bittersweet. I've always wanted a Tacoma and the mustang just isn't practical for me anymore as a daily driver. I currently have the shaker sound system in the mustang which I don't think is anything earth shattering, but certainly an improvement over a basic stock setup. I didn't get a Tacoma with the JBL as I didn't want the sunroof and figured I would get more bang for my buck in terms of the stereo with aftermarket upgrades. Now, I've been trying to research this as much as possible, but what I want to know is how much of an improvement could I get from just replacing the stock speakers in the Tacoma? I definitely don't want to replace the head unit, so just wondering if an amp or sub would be necessary. I'm not looking for the amount of bass that would make the rear view fall off, but do appreciate good sound quality beyond what most cars provide as a stock unit. I know this is a long post, but if anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it!

I think the current system in the TRD'S is pretty good and has very good bass. The system is lacking in volume when compared to my wife's Tahoe Bose system but I have really enjoyed the stock sound system thus far.

I also have the trd sport and I've been pleased with the sound. I'm not an audiophile but I can tell what's good system from a bad one. Of course it won't sound as good as the jbl, but I think it's good enough for the average person. Just one idiot's opinion...

Bang for buck these guys systems can't be beat. I had one of their setups in my FRS when I had it and it was really decent for what I paid. Easy to install and tuned nicely to specific vehicles etc.... their system for the 2016 is due out within a month.

In my opinion I the upgrade is decent depending on how much bass u want...I've got the upgrade and is still thinking about getting and amp and subwoofer upgrade to JL audio

My 2006 had a better stock system.

This could use better speakers and amp.

This might be a dumb question, but is it possible to add an amp and/or sub without changing the head unit? I have no experience with sound systems so I'm not sure how it works.

Yes, you just run the stock head unit to the amp and power the speakers from the amp.

I was told they did not have the harness yet.

@OP the stock sounds very good. I had the 2011 Taco and this one is much better and has
allot more low end than I was expecting...pretty pleased with it.

Sound quality is about a hell of a lot more than speakers, so if you want true quality sound you would need to replace the system. You can keep your head unit but will need to replace everything else.

I think it depends on what you want and how highly you place music. This is not meant as a jab or insult to anyone but there is a JBL thread and a lot if people say something to the effect of "JBL is awesome, I don't really have anything to compare it to, but it's awesome" or "JBL is the best factory sound I need".
Nothing wrong with those opinions but they are opinions of people who really don't care about sound, so of course they'll love JBL. Not really helpful to those of us who want a quality system in our trucks.

If you really want a good sound system, go to a car audio shop and have a listen to their systems. Have them walk you through what needs to be done. I was looking at spending around $1,000 for a pioneer or Kicker system. They would replace all but the head unit and do all new wiring to handle the power.
It would have blown the JBL system out of the water and saved me $2,000 because I have zero interest in the premium tech package.

Wow ... they have a ton of stuff ... including installation videos ... I was watching some videos and my wife came up behind me and said ... "what are you watching?" ... I said ... new stereo installation video ... she said "does it take a beautiful girl to show you how to install it?" I said ... It certainly helps!" She said, but you don't own a TUNDRA ... I said ... I am just being thorough by watching ALL THE VIDEOS!

Agreed 100%. Confirmation bias is all over this forum, but even more so in the 3rd Gen sub-forum. At least there is still some awesome information from knowledgeable people here.

I'd suggest you wait a few months. Determine how much you like/dislike the OEM setup and by then there might be more options for the '16.
