TRD Sport tacoma a waste of money?

I was amazed filling up after crossing the continental divide, over 11,500 feet and being hard on the gas and at high rpm just to get it to really move at that altitude, that I got 23.6 that tank. Remember being pissed about the headwind not helping too.

But at sea level still average over 21 for regular driving.

My worst two tanks were highway miles in Texas where I tried 93 since they didn't have 91. Hated it, got 18.5

I use 91 if around sea level and 87 if way up in altitude.

 

I only use 91 octane mainly because I enjoy the slight increase in power(right?) and slightly higher mpg(yeah?). I only average about 5k a year on my personal truck so it's not breaking the bank.

I calculate around 20mpg average. Seems reasonable to me considering I remote start for several minutes prior to driving to cool off the interior(living in AZ).

 

When mine was new, the best I got was about 19 or so. Now with mods about 15 BUT, while I'm waiting for my UCAs, I'm running about +1.7 toe out due to lack of caster adjustment, so I'm sure it'll pick back up again in a week or so when I get time to install the UCAs.

There is no reason toe can't be adjusted regardless of caster. You have serious issues if your toe can't be set within spec

 

I meant .75. Had to do it to get the truck to not wander. The new ucas are a week away so will re align then I'll post the results. Initially, some dumb ass (me) installed the taco lean spacer on the wrong side. May have had something to do with it. ( less beer next time)

 

For a guy with a degree in Physics, you'd think I'd know better, but..... Beer. Yeah... Or wine.. Or......

 

Do you use the locker while driving on snowy roads? I have the mechanical LSD, not the simulated one.

 

One of you Tacoma guru's can correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the Locker in the Tacoma Off-Road only engages in low range. So if I'm driving on snow covered roads in 4 wheel hi, the Sport and Off-road perform exactly the same.

Thanks Bluegrass. But that is a Mod. Stock from the factory is what I was referring to.

 

Personally, I'd WANT the open differential on snow/ice covered roads. I had old school Detroit lockers in a couple of my old 4-wheelers back in the day. They were dangerous if you were to ask me. But it sure is nice to have a locking differential when you WANT it.

 

Locker on snowy roads makes zero sense unless you are already in the ditch and trying to get back out

 

For 4x4s you can do a mod that allows lockers in 4HI, in 2WD you can turn it on anytime
