    all tore up already
traction control(tcs) will work by reducing power to the wheels when they notice slipping. stability control(vsc) uses the vehicles ABS to modulate brakes in a slide situation to get you back to intended path

    Your partially wrong.
Yes the OR has electronic rear locker and crawl control. Both TRD models come with "upgraded" suspension over the SR5. The Sport Hitachi shocks are tuned stiffer to reduce body roll, OR billys are tuned softer to absorb off road terrain. Both Sport and OR have 4LO

While stopped, I press and hold that button until it shuts off both things, then I go sliding around in the snow or dirt roads. That being said, I would also like to have a better understanding of what it actually does and how it should be used.

Its no argument that obviously the Off Road is better off road. Any for all of you saying otherwise GTFO. However with that said, the Sport is VERY capable off road, it will surprise the hell out of you at what it can do. But its fact that the OR is just more capable

Well said. Should end this thread on that.

I'm gonna start a new thread, entitled "Does the OR take fast turns as well as the Sport?" and see what kind of non-sense is spewed.

The sport has to deal with the front spoiler. It is not much of a hindrance unless you want to keep it intact. Kind-a self clearing if you get to close to objects. The sport has more restricting tires than the offroad but both will get you to the end of the trail if you air down. The main difference between the sport and the offroad is at the end of the day. The softer suspension will leave much less wear and tear on the human body bouncing around off road. Either truck will get you there. Either truck in skilled hands get you there. Either truck in unskilled hands will get you there but in the Offroad model the unskilled has a distinct advantage if they know what buttons to push and what knobs to turn.

That is true for 98 % of normal offroad use where is less than a 70/30 % chance of breakage. The offroad models extras are there to reduce the risk of breakage. A broken truck goes no where.

Powering up, over and through stuff breaks things, sometimes right away or through increased wear and tear.

Now the other 2% is the he-man group who can take anything any place that a stock truck shouldn't go but even those guys should be taking another trail rig with them because when they can't make it they may need some serious help.

A stock Tacoma 4x4 is an amazing piece of hardware when not pushed beyond its capabilities I think it sets the bar pretty damn high when purchased with all the factory bells and whistles.

a correct assessment might be..... OR vs all other tacomas.... since the OR is the only one that has anything different related to offroad performance. it could possibly actually be said that the sr5 is better offroad because it has softer suspension than the sport.

I was curious, since they Off-Road and Sport are priced exactly the same then purchasing the Sport is mainly for the aesthetics right? There isn't really any performance benefits?

I believe the Off Road also has better skid plates than the sport, think it actually covers more area.

If you don't have ATRAC or Crawl control, you better stay on the pavement. These electronic systems are so advanced that they fully replace the need for lockers. TRD's crawl shit all day, Rubicons just blow rear diffs.

Seeing that my SR doesn't have any advanced electronics, it will be solidly limited to Shopping Centers, Starbucks, and the occasional Paved Mountain Road.

May be a day later than promised. And I have no editing software so it's in its full boring state, but here is the video I promised. Me in a 2014 OR with atrac on 265/70's, 3rd gen with 3 inch lift and 285's. Just for a little comparison anyway. The other blue taco is an OR as welI. love these guys, and this is by no means a shit talk. Heads up if you don't want to watch a still screen for a minute or 2 fast forward from 1:30-2:00, and again to 4:00, and no this isn't showing a situation the sport doesn't make it it is just showing the systems that the OR has to make it alot easier.

Atrac in the off-road manual is beast, use it way more often than the locker.

IMHO craw control works very very well when going down steep downhills.

    Just wanted to add that.

There is some performance benefits. Sports have stiffer shocks/suspension, thicker sway bars, and larger rims which reduces body roll but makes the ride stiffer compared to the Off Road. So basically, you can take turns faster with less sway.
