    Work in progress...
I had a FX4 because I had to had the rear lockers. Come to find out you could only lock them in at speeds under 5mph. You don't drive across deep sand at under 5mph. My experience anyways.

I have had a Sport for 4 years and been in some of the deepest sand on the East Coast and never had a problem. I don't do any serious off roading other than a trail or the beach. I use to go in some tight trails, deep mudding and a well known spot called the Boogie Woods and never needed a locker because I know my limits and a Sport can take you places far beyond most driver's limits. I have always had a 4x4 in my 40 years of driving and never had a locker or this glorified crawl cruise control. I thought about it and when it breaks its going to be some expensive repair. Remember that the locker and CC are only used in 4wd low. People always think the Sport is not a capable off roader but seem to think the SR5 is. I had an 82 I beat the shit out and was already on its last leg thanks to my brother who used the crap out of it and an 84 that were unstoppable! Good ole days of a 22R and a manual. Gets what you want, both are great!

The limited is it’s own thing and combines aspects of the Sport or Off Road but not just an upgraded Sport.
No scoop, no fender flares, no off road lockers or crawl gear.
Sport has 17” wheels and the Off Road has 16” while the limited sits on 18”s
For what it’s worth It is not under the TRD umbrella.
Why I don’t know and it should be.
It is fully loaded for comfort not utility.
They are all fully capable 4x4’s that will handle what 90% of owners will ask of them imho..
    I love my Sport.
The versatility, it’s form and function…I started out looking at the limited but went Sport in the end…
The limited looked the most “urban” to me.
Not a fan of the 18”s
I don’t ever see me climbing rocks or through DEEP mud I like the cleaner look without the fender flares etc.
So that’s mostly why I went Sport..
By what you like, what you need and works for you…

I just picked up a Sport and imo, the Sport looks better. The OR was a bit soft but more forgiving on bad roads. The Sport is fun to drive. Could there be such a thing as Sport envy?

I'd get a SR5 before a Sport for the price difference. I still don't understand what makes a Sport a TRD?????. (Seriously)

Its gotta be that priceless non-functional hood scoop that elevates its status to a trd.

The hood scoop on the TRD Sport has always been a favorite of mine. I would not be able to resist the urge to buy it.

The need for lockers is definitely overblown. The Sport is super capable.

That being said I used my locker a ton the first winter. Though most times I was getting myself into situations that I would have just avoided if I didn't have a capable truck.

If your not doing serious offroading or driving in deep snow (actual deep snow, not city deep snow) then I wouldn't worry about it at all. Even then.... You can do most of that without the locker anyway.

I was amazed how capable these 4wd tacoma's are after having a 4wd tundra. Imo, lockers aren't needed for 90% what most use these truck for.

I bought the off road and love it even though I know I'll probably never use the crawl control.

Toyota must have a problem selling their 2022 trd pro's. Just got an email to see your dealer for buying one...like their ready to go in stock. I never got an email to buy any of the other trims.

We had snow here... My ex went for a ride with me in my Tacoma... she said "Turn 4x4 on" I told her, "Hell no, I don't need that because the snow isn't deep. I know what I am doing.. my truck can handle the snow without 4x4."

She went like "Then why you need a truck with 4x4 for?" I said to her "I use it for off road, duh"...Dumb bitch. Now I don't have to worry about her because she is no longer with me...

As I have said before, it all comes down to what you value more; astestics or enhanced functionality.

I was talking about snow... which you mentioned in your post.

I don't need to activate 4x4 for snow... Unless I have deep snow on hills, then I will activate 4x4. I will probably need 4x4 at new property which it has hills... I will try it when winter comes in.

My ex wanted me to use 4x4 while I gave her a ride to work.. Which I didn't activate it.
