Yeah my 06 has the 2+overload. Was looking for a used set of 3+ but the prices I was getting, I could hold out for a new set of Dakars

I have 2+1 on my 2012 base. I like my linear coil springs preloaded with 5100s at 1.75 for most of my driving.

Can you go into more detail on this? I mean I know the difference between progressive and linear but it seems to me like the progressive OR springs would be gentler on the small bumps and imperfections of road conditions and stiffer in deep ruts and flexes of off road.

FYI, if your truck was made after october 2014 all 6 lug trucks have the 3+1 leaf pack.

before that its a mixed bag depending on TRD OR vs SPORT vs base with tow package.

It's hard to explain the dynamics in real world applications. The best way for me to describe it is through the spring rate. Whenever you lift a vehicle using preload for example, you're essentially compressing the spring rate to achieve lift. Progressive coils, as you know, have a varied spring rate as you travel the coil. If you preload that coil, you are increasing the spring rate dramtically which creates a stiffer ride. A linear coil is the same rate throughout, so you're applying preload that is "uniform". Now if the vehicle is riding stock on either coils, you probably couldn't tell the difference between the two. It's when you modify existing parts in which you'll be able to tell the difference most likely.

I bought mine in Oct 2013, so I guess that explains it. I found some free oem 3+1 springs (very nice tacoma owner who upgraded with same year/model as mine), is it worth it to switch mine out for them?

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread

If you got them for free, you might as well. You will get a bit of lift out of it and some more cargo handling capacity as well. There's no real downside honestly.

My 2013 purchased in Nov of 2012 TRD OR w/tow was configured with the 2+1. When I added my AAL, I had a set of 3+1s waiting for it. I have 3 + AAL as I pulled the overload when I did the AAL.

How lucky you are. I have yet to find any out there that aren't thought of as gold. Lol

Can someone help me with how to identify them from each other? I am looking for OR front coils and being able to tell the difference would come in handy.

    TIA,
