Thanks for taking time to post here... Let me first say I was trying to provide accurate data not emotional rants... If it seemed insulting to Sport owners, then I am sorry for that. I am not sure what you have seen from my photos or any video posted, but there is no place I had any issue with getting to... Mision Santa Maria, bottomless sand of Shell Island, and Broken Shaft Gulch near the Diablo Drop-Off, Borrego included.

Mechanically speaking the Off Road has the same equipment as the Sport... and more... the added advantages of a rear locker, and A-TRAC (on 4WD Off Roads).

The Sport has no mechanical advantage over the Off Road that I am aware of... It does have some VISUAL 'enhancements' that some like and make the Sport desireable to those who want 'looks' (hood scoop, color matched bumper/ mirrors, etc.).

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A SPORT... it just doesn't have the two important traction aids the Off Road has. (period)

When someone asks what the difference is, I believe that the hood scoop and colors are OBVIOUS... since those are things you SEE.

What isn't obvious, ...and salesmen who have Sports to sell often don't tell their customers what they could have (if they wanted them)... is the locker and A-TRAC which is not visible by looking at the truck on a sales lot.

Both Sports and Off Roads (and SR5s and Base Tacomas) are all great and that is because they are built so well... by Toyota!

    Peace you guys!

the shocks are exactly the same for the sport of the OR. the difference is the progressive coils on the OR and a larger diameter sway bar on the sport. shocks and leafs are exactly the same.

Toyota makes multiple versions of the Tacoma, this is due to the fact that not everyone needs or can afford all the bells and whistles like you seem to imply that we all need to have. For me, I knew I needed 4WD and test drove the OR first and then the Sport and decided I liked the ride of the Sport better and could do without the added traction features of the OR. I drive regularly up to my camp in the mountains that is 110 miles of hiway and 15 miles of rough back roads and then uphill to the top of a small mountain in the NE (used to be a ski resort). This year has been very cold and icy and the Sport gets up there just as good as my 4Runner has done the past 6 years.
I don't do group rides to see if I can climb higher or faster than the next guy, I just want to get where I need to be; top of the mountain :) I really don't give a F if it has a fake hood scoop or the color is different, it is nice and I like it.

That's correct, the OR was $500 more than the Sport and the Sport meets my needs, which is my point.

Yeah, lets take the blinders off and realize that not everyone that buys a Tacoma is taking on the rubicon and insist that the OR is the only answer, that's just BS.

I just traded in my TRD OR Prerunner today for 4WD Sport. Yes it does ride a little better.
