Orrrr, you can just play it safe and burn the tank down and refill it with premium as recommended by TRD. That's a warranty denied waiting to happen right there. You can say "the engine and ECU will do this and this and this, just run regular, you're fine" but when something goes wrong..."You should have waited for premium".

I only use premium in mine...but waited to install my SC after buying the truck until I drove through the dealer tank of regular and half a tank of premium. I don't remember where, but someone actually posted dyno results on 87 vs 91 and there like 3-5 hp difference lol. Plus cleaner burning and less crap in it. You can say all you want about 87 being fine, but you've clearly never bought 87 from a Naval base before.

Your also in Cali. Piss water gas. last road trip I did down to san fran in my evo I had to retune the car when I filled up in just into cali. The car was knocking. I had to drop timming 2degs across the board and drop boost from 26psi to 23psi.

yea because the rest of the world's 87 is wonderful and never has any issues. All i'm saying is lets not encourage people to try to use 87 on their newly boosted Tacomas, that is a stupid, and you know it.

When i used to commute from San Diego to Orange County, I used to use 87 in another vehicle...I would fill up down at the base in San Diego and it would take over half a tank to get to Orange County, and then I'd drive around OC and empty the tank, then before I drove back down I'd fill back up at Chevron and it would take me maybe 1/4 of a tank to get back to SD.

I've run premium in mine since I purchased the truck. It's the only way to go in Cali. It's only a few bucks more per tank.

And if you are dealer ECU re-flashed you are also getting a 7th injector, upgraded fuel pump and UCON-EMS....right? Otherwise, pingitty-ding-ping!

Unless one is 110% sure they are sticking with the stock TRD S/C setup, that damn re-flash hoses you for a lot of fun upgrades. The UCON is the only thing out there that will truly take over the re-flashed ECU in any meaningful way when it comes to getting enough fuel delivered to prevent detonation.

Mine is in the shop right now being installed.

Volcom, I wanted to do it myself, I really did. Especially when I put my stock Air cleaner set up back on this weekend and saw how open is was in there. But I found a dealer to do it for dirt cheap!! And he took it in right away. So I figured the warranty thing would make it worth it. Although I have never used warranty in my life.

Can't wait though. Hopefully done today or tomorrow. I always use premium so no problem there. And I know it takes a little while for the ECU to learn. But can't wait for that initial pound.

I just hope it's not some joker at the dealership doing it and snapping all my clips and stuff. It better be done right and perfect. Anything to look for when I get it back? Any tricky parts you guys remember so I can check on them to see if they did what they were supposed to? Or any clips or brackets they have the potential to screw up so I can replace if they did????

Yup me too. I started running 91 when I towed our camper and noticed it ran smoother all around so I haven't put 87 in in a couple of years. No SC here. I thought about it but am saving for a sports car instead.

officially in the club now. Done!!!! Shout out and special thanks to Crashnburn. Helped me on this one also. And Tacorican of course. Without him I wouldn't have it. Now time to play!! Dealer did awesome job. Engine compartment is as clean as when I dropped it off. Still want to know places I should check to see if done right.

Yea, take it for a spin, then check all your coolant connections on everything, like...everything that has a rubber hose pretty much got replaced or removed. I forgot the little 1/4" hose on top of the pump under the main unit and as soon as I started up I started leaking coolant everywhere...luckily I shut it off quick and found the hose lol. Other than that, i know a couple guys have had small drip leaks on some of the hoses that was fixed by adjusting clamps or using different clamps. I check mine over every couple of weeks and haven't found anything out of place yet!

And hey! No worries man, I was so against installing myself, but after getting quotes around me from 1k-2500 for install I finally decided I'd give it a go. After spending a day reading through the instructions, It actually didn't seem that bad. After doing it now, I recommend it to anyone that can turn a wrench. I don't think there was anything super hard about it, just time consuming. As long as you follow the directions, as well as use the walk through someone did on here to supplement the instructions, its a good day! :D

The hardest part would probably be the crank pulley after that it's straight forward

I wired my 2 car garage with 1800 watts equivalent of 100w CFLs. It is lit brighter than the brightest operating room. 500w halogen work lights make no difference. LEDs under the hood would probably only cast a shadow, unless of course I'm not at home.
