Initial one day driving impressions with the new charger.

It is quieter than I thought it would be. People comment on noise at idle. I noticed no additional noise from inside the cab at idle. It does whine under load when the RPMs increase, not annoyingly loud but you can tell it is there. If you drive light footed you rarely hear it. It doesn't feel 'sporty'. The truck resists downshifting (auto) more than it used to, because it now has the extra torque to pull in a higher gear. This would be why I suspect people do not see a noticeable loss in fuel economy since the truck does not rev for power like the naturally aspirated 4.0 does. However, with a little extra nudge on the pedal to get the downshift, in the words of Clarkson: POWER!!!!

You hear no noise at all at idle? Not in park but in gear at a stop.

Windows up, AC on, I noticed no additional noise. Could be a different story with windows down or next to a wall or no AC. I'll test it out later today.

Almost a month since ordering, still waiting on fit kit.....tempted to cancel and mod the Scoob instead.

I don't think is sounded like that. It was nearly 90 yesterday, so I had the AC cranked up on 3 with fan recirculate. I will check today and let you know.

If you are on the backorder list, your order will likely be cancelled for you when Toyota voids the order because the part is discontinued. Hopefully you didn't have to pay for it before ordering. Can't hurt to leave it in the system on the very unlikely chance they release more.

So I contacted Toyota today at the email provided earlier in this thread about the emissions sticker, and they said that I had to go through a dealership to get one. PITA. Have one on order through DCH Toyota in Simi Valley, only $5.

MIne sounds like #2 video. #1 video has the clank of the coupler to the gears and the slop in the gears, all gears have slop. I also hear a different exhaust sound, not stock. Unless we all use the same recording pro stuff at exact volumes (every phone has diff microphones) we'll never be able to compare exactly.

That said, littleblue, mine had a bit of rattle at idle in December 2014 when installed, it still sounds like something is different, but no gear slop now. Supercharger different. Let it go for about 1k miles and do it again and compare. It runs great right? No worries. I didn't.

Thanks. I do have the TRD exhaust. And to clarify just in-case, the car is NOT in Park. Is is in D with my foot on the brake. When it is in P and not under any load, the noise is a LOT less.

It does run great. I just worry about something going wrong later on, and in general if it doesn't have to make that noise, I would like it gone. I'll keep driving it and if the noise is still there when my next service date comes by I guess I'll bring it up. I doubt anything will be done though.

So I gotta say, the supercharger is awesome. After about 200 miles of breaking it in it is running like a champ. Hammered it a few times last night for the first time and it was screaming for more. If you are on the fence about getting one I'd reccomend you pull the trigger before they are all gone.

Correct, as you can see in the video I posted the truck is in drive with my foot on the brake, not park. I have the stock non-TRD exhaust.

Even though I never had any plans of getting a SC, I am very disappointed Toyota is getting rid of the program. Having the TRD performance parts and program helped make Toyota and the Tacoma special and stick out compared to it's competitor. For me it was like a halo effect, knowing Toyota valued and catered to enthusiast like myself, kind of like a poor mans M or AMG division. It was nice to know if I ever changed my mind (stumbled upon $6k) I could always get a SC and have it installed and covered by the dealer.

CARB EO# with the trd kit was key for me. I don't want the hassle during smog/registration every two years (here in CA).

I paid for it a couple weeks ago. Just picked it up over the weekend though. These came from a dealer in Columbus.

FYI- I just got around to opening the 'Install Instructions' envelope the dealer threw in one of my boxes they returned to me with the old parts. In the envelope was the warranty registration card. According to the card, it must be sent in for the extended warranty and needs the work order number and more from your install receipt. That would have been nice to know and not discover on my own.
