That's my same feeling. I even wrote Toyota an email showing my dissapointment in cancelling the Supercharger program. Don't get me wrong, I love my truck and I did have plans on Supercharging it. I was literally on my way to buy an F150 Ecoboost, but stopped by Toyota one last time. Many factors led to my decision on the Tacoma (price, color, size, and TRD Supercharger was available). Now, it's no longer available and getting harder to find and more expensive. If I would have known then what I know now, I would have just had the dealer install a Supercharger when I bought the truck.

I have the fit kit now but can't track down the supercharger. All the dealers are saying they're on backorder now too. So I'm waiting to see if they can track one down before they refund my money.

I hope that works out and you can find a supercharger from that vendor. Otherwise you might try LCE in addition to pursuing other options.

The dealer called me back and they'd have one in the morning. I told them to refund my money and I'll just find another, but they ended up tracking one down I guess. So I'm not sure if they are all backordered yet or not. He said there was a list of 40 some people waiting in the country

No I got it coming. I know that post was probably a little confusing. Lol I already have the fit kit so there's no way I could turn them down since they found one.

If my dealer can get one, is it too late for them to add it on my loan? I bought the truck at the end of March. .=P

Toyota explicitly states that the supercharger cannot be added to the loan. Though I think some have been able to work that out with the dealer at the time of purchase.

I was wheeling with my buddy at a big Jeep jamboree last week and one of the guys had a complete supercharger kit for his newish straight six TJ. Around $2,500 out the door for a 100% complete bolt on package. Manufacturer claimed 100 hp gain and he estimated it was putting out about 80. Really a very, very, nice setup. Maybe Toyota stopped selling them because they started feeling guilty about how bad they have been screwing people at their price.

The last Jeep I6 4.0 is my favorite NA engine, one of the best off road engines of all time with an awesome torque curve. Almost all Jeep mods are far cheaper than Toyota.

Sure that Jeep supercharger setup is far cheaper than Toyota's offerings, but it is not comparable to the TRD supercharger. The Jeep is aftermarket system with a repurposed GM centrifugal supercharger (better high end HP), and a piggyback system utilizing a 7th injector instead of proper dedicated high flow injectors. It is also not intercooled and likely not 50 state emissions legal. It is not backed by Toyota's warranty and I guarantee you the system is not tested to the extreme Toyota (or any OEM) would test its products.

The Toyota system utilizes a fully integrated roots blower which will provide better low end torque and instant throttle response, uses proper high flow injectors for each cylinder rather than flooding the manifold with fuel from a sloppy 7th injector, and is liquid to air intercooled (the most efficient availble), is 50 state emissions legal, includes an OEM ECU re-flash to properly work with the larger injectors and is backed by the OEM manufacture warranty. As a result of proper engineering, it can be run legally in any state and fuel economy is nearly unaffected.

That Jeep system is more inline with the 3.4 supercharger, which is significantly cheaper than the Toyota 4.0L unit, though still more expensive than the Jeep aftermarket unit.

After having a v8 4runner, and getting the 4.0 and missing that extra torque/hp, I am sad to hear that Toyota has cancelled the supercharger program. That info wouldn't make/break my decision to buy another toyota, but it was nice knowing that it was a possibility, and I wouldn't have to worry about warranty issues for the truck. Not to mention the emissions issue.

Now, when the time comes and I want a little more power for towing, I'm looking at a new truck, and not just a (very expensive) modification to the taco. While I like the toyota v8, some of the horrible engineering decisions made on the 4runner v8 and the tundra have me wondering if I will ever buy a full size toyota pickup.

Additionally, all the press releases I've read make reference to new models and what not, but that just means they are in position to stop making them for new models. Their decision to stop making them at all speaks to them either having dismal sales to the point of no profit, or having so many warranty issues that they don't make money. I'd guess it was some combination of both.

That just sounds like the parts guys are either trying to keep them for an employee at the dealer, or they are just planning on keeping them until they can charge more for a "discontinued" part.

    A year?

My install is scheduled for Monday the 20th. Really looking forward to seeing how it is after the supercharger. I feel there is something special about owning the last year model 2nd gen and having one of the last superchargers. I managed to find a dealership who quoted me $640 in labor which was the lowest around me by far. I've been really fighting myself to keep from buying the URD 2.85 stealth pulley, I see an endless amount of money going into this truck.

    Good Lord man...
What dealership is doing that install for 425?
Shit, I'll go to wv to save 600 bucks. Make a weekend of it and head up to Heinz for a game!
