ill admit it ,I bought one of the supercharger s from Mesa...its en route now....its only money....it was tax free so it's not as bad of a deal as it sounds? Ok it is, but I...feel a little better after the price increase for the last one...I ll feel way better once it's in my Baja!

Damn, I guess that was the one on ebay. I hope you enjoy it, if it's something you really want and have the extra cash more power to you...... literally.

Ehh I don't get me wrong. If I didn't find one, yes I will be bum but I'm not crazy to spend that much money just to have one. That's like double the price.

I posted this on the wrong discussion. Moving it here. Sorry for the double post.

Guys, my mind is blown. I live in Dallas and work near Irving. I had the dealership install a TRD blower on my 2012 TX Pro a couple years ago. $5000 for blower, fit kit and install, out the door. I traded that Tacoma in on a GT 500 when I moved to Dallas.

My advice, do not pay more than $5000 for this charger. I love Toyota and the Tacoma. I have owned 5 of them. I am actually considering a Tacoma for my wife and decided to see if the new model Tacoma would support a supercharger. That search brought me here, where I have an old membership. Im sure I have some old posts on this site. I had no idea the blower was no longer sold and demand was going nuts.

Lets be real for a minute here. I loved my TRD supercharger and cant believe its no longer being produced. The stock truck is 260 HP at the flywheel, and the blower takes it to 304 HP. Account for 15 percent drive train loss on the truck and we are talking about weak numbers. If you cant get this for $5000 save your money and buy something with real power. The Supercharged truck isnt fast anyway, it sounds good and has great whine, but its not like it will pin you to the seat or anything. It might run a 6 second 0-60.

Before anyone gets offended, understand I live Tacomas. But you are getting raped if you pay more than $5000. $5000 is even questionable for 64 crank horsepower. Heck, I got 50 rwhp gains from a tune and CAI on my 2014 GT500. Save your money.

On a side note, Im calling this Irving Toyota location in the morning. If they have any chargers and fit kits left I will go tomorrow and buy two. I will sell them for $600-$700 more than I pay. Thats way better than these rapers on Ebay. $15,000, $20,000 for a rebranded Magnuson Supercharger that increases power by 50 Rwhp (64 crank HP)? Please.

I will let you guys know if I score a blower.

And what happened to URD. In 2012 everyone was mad about the URD Supercharger and the device that allowed you to avoid the PCM reflash. Is that blower no longer sold either? Gadget was a big deal back then.

Not to going tot throw shit, but did you just compare tuning a GT500 to a TRD S/C on a V6 truck

    Sorry, that's kind of funny.

I doubt anyone is stupid enough to pay $15K. The dealer probably threw that up because of how much demand there is and they are hoping some rich fool snaps it up. BTW if anyone wants a TRD S/C installed for $15K I'll sell them a Tacoma attached to one for $30K :D.

The URD is still sold. If you want to use it though you need to build a custom wiring harness for the UCON piggyback ECU for trucks newer than 2009. That's not a quick and easy install but it is possible. The URD voids the warranty, unless you tore everything off and took it to the dealer stock again, so that tends to be a downer for anyone with a brand new truck. If something is wrong in a small way with an engine adding boost is just going to cause a failure, and no warranty with a blown warranty would blow (pun intended). TBH someone who traded a Tacoma in on a GT500 would probably enjoy the URD because the MK III is totally built for top end power. The TRD is a bit better down low, like most roots type blowers, which is where I like my power. I don't need to get off the line fast but on hills, with a load, on my 33's that TRD makes a night and day difference. That extra ~60 ft lbs of torque includes a big jump down low with almost no lag.

    Responding to both posts here.

Sorry, yes 236. I knew that, its just been a while. Not sure where I got 260. Thanks for posting the correct number.

No, Im not actually comparing modding a GT 500 to supercharging a Tacoma. But I am listing the respective costs to get 50 rwhp between the two platforms. $100 per Hp (If you pay $5000. $200 per hp if you pay $10,000) on the Tacoma or $6.50 per HP on the GT 500.

I can tell you are in love with your Tacoma as well. Im just calling it what it is. Im not one of the haters with no idea posting on here. I actually owned numerous Tacomas and one with a blower and know the experience well. But the people here that havent blown their truck dont know what to expect and are hoping its awesome. Im just posting some info and trying to offer guidance. I wish someone would have done the same for me, I would have still proceeded if they had. 250 odd Rwhp with the blower (50 rwhp increase) for $5000 is not a great deal but its doable for some and its fun and $5000 max can be justified. Many of us love the truck so much we close our eyes to that information and press on. Its a great kit, its rock solid, if Toyota installs it you get to keep your full warranty and the SC gets that same coverage. But to pay anymore than the original price, like $8500 is mind bending. Sorry, its true and everyone reading this knows it. Making these statements isnt me hating. Its me hoping someone who is getting ready to spend every dime they have in this world gets a chance to read it first, nothing more. The cost per HP at $5000 is staggering, the cost at $8500 and up is uninformed.

Im a little frustrated that people are being taken advantage of at these increased costs. Everyone that does this upgrade isnt blown away by the performance.

Yea seriously, at this point anything over 6k or so, you might as well swap in a bigger engine with more support.

Nice bold print. I totally understand now.

Honestly, take it easy. I wasn't trying to insult your opinion. I did find the relationship between the two platforms funny. Your Mustang was easy to tune for the same reason it's fairly easy to get more out of the TRD S/C. Forced induction motors with factory tunes usually have huge safety margins built into their tunes for warranty purposes. I'm sure you may of known that, but like you said, may as well state it for everyone else.

As for paying $8500 american, I'm with you there. The prices are just silly right now.
