TRD supercharger

Just built my own. Tried to match the Tacoma gauges best I could. Digital is easier for me to read-less focus time. I have other blue lights in my truck and I thought it would be easier on the eyes at night.

 

Thomas, how do you like the y pipe and pulley? Is the y pipe considerably louder or have somewhat same stock sound?

 

I had the TRD exhaust. I think it's a tic louder, but my wife didn't whine so it's ok. The smaller pulley and fuel pump make things feel smoother. It's not a dramatic change, but there is a quicker spool up. I'm kinda wanting more, but it's my DD. Probably stop with this.

 

I ditched the TRD exhaust after I did the URD ypipe to make it 3" all the way back. I did the URD Mark lll. It sounded a hell of a lot better as it eliminated the little bit of rasp the blower gave me.......something to think about, you won't regret it. Also, AFE just came out with a 3" exhaust that exits out the side (in front of the rear passenger tire). That one should also connect up to the URD ypipe just fine. It looks pretty nice and supposed to sound pretty badass as well.

 

I'm living with this for a while now. Maybe if I heard it from outside I'd reconsider, but it's not bad in the cab. I think I'd like some dynomat, but I'll have that done. I have no desire to rip the truck apart just for sound deadening. The smaller pulley does make a difference, especially on the low end, but it's never going to be badass fast. Once I get my taxes out of the way it might be time for a new toy...something with an LS in it.

As someone who's not that familiar with superchargers, what benefits do they provide? Is it worth getting one?

How much would it cost to get a TRD supercharger and all the necessary accessories?

This is something that seems interesting, and may be interested in pulling the trigger on years down the road once I learn more about it and actually have the spare cash.

Yes imho, but others may say its not worth it.... theres objective numbers all around this forum and xru, and subjective opinions in both forums with differing results.

Probably not worth it, unless you plan on keeping the truck for a while. YMMV

 

So I bought the Walbro 255. It cleared up an apparent lean condition on tip-in. Well, I'm assuming it was lean. Right as the bypass closes.

Not sure if this is allowed, but since I'm in the market for a taco, I stumbled across this.

Not sure if this is a good deal, but I think it is. Similar trucks without the S/C are going for the same price and higher. I've decided to actually go with Mag and do the build myself, so this isn't of interest to me anymore. Someone might be looking for one though... The dealer doesn't even mention the S/C in the ad...I don't think they know what they have:
