I'll be buying it soon. There is a part that is bothering me about it though. One of the outlets is small so I gotta see if I can contact the manufacturer about it.

Moving forward, I have searched high and low for a good solution as a replacer part for the Bosch 392-022-002 auxillary electric water pump supplied with the TRD Supercharger kits for the intercooler system which will flow a better amount more water over it. After searching all over the web, I found a viable, and low cost solution (Actually, priced just the same as the 002 pump we have when sourced outside of dealers) which will pump out 1.10 GPM MORE than the one we have on ours. Coincidentally, it happens to be a superceded Bosch pump built for the V12 SL600 Mercedes Benz' (supposedly 2004-2011). They also happen to be the same dimensional size as our 002 Bosch pumps where the adele clamps bolt up, but the upgrades are internal in the motor, and you can see it because the case is built of all aluminum minus the outlets. These pumps will pull slightly more amperage than ours, but the fuse it is wired to has more than enough to run it. Big however, the pumps also happen to use a different plug compared to ours which uses a connector which is styled after the Bosch fuel injector plugs. I have taken the time to track down the required "parts" needed to retrofit the connector. After that you will have to cut the old connector off and solder the two new wires on for the plug...

    Parts needed for this retrofit:
PN- 392-022-010 Bosch Auxillary water pump ($104 from Autohaus based out of Arizona)
PN- 2305400081 x1 connector housing ($2 bought from your local Mercedes Benz dealer)
PN- 0005402505 x2 wiring w/ pins and gaskets already premade ($6 per from Mercedes Benz)

If you want higher flow through the system, this is your ticket.

Bad news, I contacted the manufacturer and since the tank is not directly intended for our trucks, they said there is not much they can do about modifying what would be the return opening. I will have to continue either searching or find a solution for the much smaller opening.

^ You really think that the pump change would help to reduce IC water temp? I'd change the IC radiator first or would increase the water capasity somehow. Otherwise I think it's useless to change pump.

^I agree with this. Unless you increase the heat exchanger size, you're just moving hot coolant faster at that point. Granted, it might take a little longer to heat up due to increased coolant capacity, but on the flip side it will take that much longer to cool it down. Maybe look into a larger engine and SC radiator before trying to increase flow. I work with heat exchangers for a living lol, more flow can actually be detrimental because now you're just flowing the hot coolant through the heat exchanger (your radiators) without letting them do their job, thereby increasing your heat soak. The cheapest mod is rarely the best when it comes to performance.

Makes sense. Now to find a bigger SC radiator, most likely would have to be custom though.

Not necessarily. Check on Summit Racing four different coolers. Or heat exchangers. Then find something that is either a little thicker or larger all around that still fits in the space constraints. Then you'll just need to figure out how to adapt the hoses and determine if some angle brackets are needed. So slightly custom but not difficult.

I've been tentatively looking for an SC cooler that's a little thicker. But might wait until I cage the engine so I can fit something bigger in there to really benefit

There have been many reports from these Benz owners of drops in IAT temps and heatsoak in general after switching out from their 003 Bosch pumps when changing out to a 010 pump. There have also been reports from Chrysler Crossfire owners of the same as well. All reviews have been positive with a stray negative one or two from what I saw that the pump was defective.

About a larger intercooler, I'm not sure about that, but I have seen a post where guy talks about the fact that there is more obstruction in the way when the core is thicker thereby reducing overall cooling effectiveness for the engine and making the engine bay even hotter, so I'm not sure what to make of it. I read both sides of the coin and wonder which one is actually right. Lol.

If I do end up going for a larger in cooler also if I ever get around to changing out to a cage also, I would want to definitely get a more universally designed intercooler core that way it would be easy to swap out if I ever have issues or just want to go larger.

As far as increasing coolant capacity goes. I am actively heavily looking into that. Nobody really makes an immediate direct 100% swap over tank without having to modify something and if I post something up I want to make sure that it would be something everyone can fit into their truck without much modifying, definitely without metal work involved for sure.

12TRDTacoma, what kind of IC heat issues/deficiency you have had?

It's so tiny core inside the TRD SC that the I can't understand how the pump flow could't be enough.
    IMG_3302.jpg

I don't know about heatsoaks either, mine is been always cold. But I have had max. 6 PSI boost and here is no desert/high outside temps.

    Good research, keep continue.

Btw. M-B engines runs hotter than Toyotas, 1GR-FE is about 180°F, European cars 200-210°F.

I love how these mod conversations come back around years later. The heat exchanger on our TRD setups are more than adequate. Even running on the hottest days these heat exchangers are always cool to the touch. The inner cooler on the other hand, should be larger.

As for cooling the rotors, really only one thing works best and that's a 7th injector.

Snakebite works on the TRD blower. Probably would want a Pulley bigger than 3 inch though

I mean, Steigemeier wouldn't really be in business or be advertising if it didn't work lol. I looked into the port and polish before I installed but the shipping fees+P&P to HP gained just didn't seem worth it. Had not seen Snakebite at the time available to Tacomas.

7th injector is definitely on the list when I get UCON.

Company just rolled out a new bonus plan that's pissing people off; don't use sick days, get 125% bonus. I already burned a couple this year before the policy went into effect...so UCON+truck mods is happening in March for sure (if not before then :spy: ).

I do think the full Snakebite package could be detrimental for us though, due to the smaller intercooler. For a track only truck it would be great, but after cruising around all day, or out in the desert, that extra boost/rotor speed would probably be to much, even with a 7th injector. @Torspd Do you think Water/meth and 7th injector would be able to keep inlet temps and rotors cool enough with almost double rotor speed lol?

How would one go about modifying the inner cooler for more capacity. Wouldn't you have to redesign the entire main unit for a taller/thicker inner cooler for proper air flow across it?

If the 7th alone wouldn't cut it for the snake bite kit, then you would have to likely go to meth as well. With considerations for a larger Reservoir and or larger exchanger. Because the capacity along with the cooling would help increase the time before heat saturation of the coolant.

Remember that used to have the snake bite, who was on XRU started out around 16 PSI. Then did Heavy porting on the lower intake plenum and the supercharger where it mates to that plenum. Then did some porting on the exhaust ports of the heads. All of the porting dropped it down to around 10 psi with the same pulley size.

Ugh, I'm gonna have to pick up another engine one of these days and start modding it lol. But at what point do I say "stop spending money on this and just get an LS for way more power". In reality I'm thinking UCON with 7th and the 2.7 pulley will have me happy with where I'm staying until I can afford to drop in an LS someday
