My Wife did that once with 87 on a road trip. I went in and got 2 bottles and dumped them in and felt a little power boost out of it lol

 

Moral of this story is make sure the truck is filled with gas before letting wife/girlfriend drive it.

 

Ok wow, I know we talked about air filters, and it's only been about 5k miles since I last cleaned mine, but I figured it's also got about 3 Pismo trip and a couple Hollister trips, it was filthy! Getting the truck all ready for Pismo next weekend, glad I cleaned it when I did. Soaked it in the cleaner for like 5 minutes then sprayed it out with the hose lightly, pure brown water for about a solid minute!

 

Some sources say 30k miles for cleaning the air filter. As with so many other maintenance items, it all depends on the usage that it sees. Glad you checked it.

 

Yeah I mean If its just road use, then the average user is probably fine, but having the intake on the front of the truck, plus being out in the sand and following behind trucks offroad that are kicking up dust, it was pretty coated. I'll have to be sure to keep an eye on it more often.

 

You have the URD filter correct? What cleaner did you use. All I have seen including Injen say to use a vaccuum or light air pressure to clean it. I prefer the low pressure water idea sprayed from the inside of the filter outward.

 

I had some old K&N cleaner I used on it. Maybe it shortened the life of it, who knows. But It had some pretty en-trained dirt in it, that light watering wasn't taking out. Usually the dry filters if you do it often enough after an offroad trip you can take it off and lightly bang it against something and most of the sand and grit will fall out. But this one, nothing came off when I did that and it was still stained a bit lol. I just bought the AFE cleaner since I'm pretty sure this is just an AFE filter slapped on to some tubing with a URD sticker on it lol.

 

I think it's an Injen nanofilter...probably the same thing.

 

Yeah whatever, it's all the same shit lol. Non-oiled being the key. I've got that prefilter cover I need to put over it, I forgot when I had it off to add it on. Should definitely help kept alot of the larger particulate and bugs and crap from sticking in between the filter ridges
